How to read this
The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on 9 October 2026; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.
Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.
Kill line
A daily close below $106, under the $106.71 close of 18 September 2026, which would erase the late-September advance; a cut to full-year subscription ARR guidance at the December report would also end the case.
Not a pickResearch coverage at low conviction. A medium-or-higher call would open a pick on the scoreboard.
How picks are graded →The thesis
Rubrik grew subscription annual recurring revenue (ARR) 33% in its last reported quarter, which supports the business case. The shares already trade at the analyst consensus target, though, so the next three months depend on whether the early-December quarterly report raises full-year guidance again.
The 9 October 2026 expansion of Project Hourglass is the only company news since the last update. It adds distribution for an AI code-security product that is still in private preview, so it does not change revenue expectations yet. The narrative is maturing: the AI-security story is widely covered, and the latest company news concerns partners for an unreleased product rather than new revenue. The Cybersecurity group moved back to accelerating on 9 October after reading saturated on 2 October, which lowers the bar for this name. A renewed cooling in the group would raise it.
Bullish and bearish views on Rubrik, Inc.
The bull case on Rubrik, Inc. (RBRK), in brief: Recurring revenue keeps compounding. The bear case: Price has caught up with targets.
Bull case
- Recurring revenue keeps compounding. Rubrik's 27 August 2026 release reported subscription ARR of $1.66 billion at 31 July, up 33% year over year, and quarterly revenue of $427.3 million, up 38%.
- Guidance went up on every metric. On 27 August the company raised its fiscal 2027 outlook to subscription ARR of $1,880–$1,885 million, revenue of $1,685–$1,693 million and free cash flow of $323–$333 million.
- Large customers are growing. Customers with $100,000 or more in subscription ARR reached 3,084 at 31 July 2026, up 23% year over year.
- AI security product gains channel partners. On 9 October 2026, at its GSI Summit in Goa, India, Rubrik added AHEAD, Trace3 and World Wide Technology to Project Hourglass (Investing.com). The program supports Rubrik Code Guardian, which runs on Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5, and already included Deloitte, Cognizant, Wipro and NTT DATA.
- Analyst targets sit at a higher range. Bullstory's 9 October 2026 summary listed 27 analysts with an average target of $120.15, a range of $110 to $139, and a Strong Buy consensus. Baird's $139 target, raised from $130 on 23 September, is the top of that range.
Bear case
- Price has caught up with targets. The $120.89 close on 8 October 2026 sits slightly above the $120.15 average target in Bullstory's 9 October summary. Further gains need new target increases.
- Insiders sold into the rally. MarketBeat reported $12.7 million of insider sales across 147,541 shares in the 90 days to 23 September 2026, including the chief financial officer's sale of 10,000 shares at $98.32 on 24 August.
- GAAP losses persist. Under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Rubrik lost $0.30 per share in the quarter ended 31 July 2026. GAAP gross margin fell to 78.4% from 79.5% a year earlier.
- Next-quarter guide is modest. Third-quarter revenue guidance of $429–$431 million is close to the $427.3 million just reported, so the December report needs a clear beat.
- New product is not yet revenue. Investing.com reported on 9 October 2026 that Code Guardian remains in private preview with select design partners. The AI narrative is ahead of reported sales.
Price setup
Adjusted daily closes put the shares at $120.89 on 8 October 2026. That is 3.9% below the 52-week high of $125.80, which came after the 1 October close of $115.40. Over three months the shares rose 44.2%. The 14-day relative strength index (RSI) is 68.3, down from 81.4 at the last update and just under the 70 level often read as overbought.
The advance is steep. MarketBeat put the 50-day moving average at $90.56 and the 200-day at $72.79 on 23 September, both far below the current price. The 18 September close of $106.71 marks where the late-September advance began. A close back under that level would mean the advance has reversed.
Catalysts, next 30 days
- No company-scheduled results fall inside the next 30 days. Code Guardian partner news on 9 October 2026 has already been published.
- 31 October 2026: fiscal third quarter ends. This closes the quarter reported in December. No results are released on this date.
- ~3 December 2026 (est.): third-quarter fiscal 2027 report. It falls outside the 30-day window but inside the three-month horizon. It shows whether subscription ARR growth holds near 33% and whether full-year guidance rises above $1,880–$1,885 million.
What would change the view
The case breaks if the December report shows subscription ARR growth slowing well below 33%, or if full-year ARR guidance is held at $1,880–$1,885 million or cut. With the shares at the consensus target, holding guidance flat would remove the reason for further target increases.
On price, a daily close below $106 would put the shares under the 18 September 2026 close of $106.71 and erase the late-September advance. New Form 4 filings showing executive sales above $115 would be further evidence that insiders are selling into the higher prices. A sustained 10-year Treasury yield above 5%, which Benzinga reported was briefly touched on 14 September, would weigh on loss-making software valuations.
A stronger case would need a third-quarter beat with a raised ARR outlook, or a general-availability date and paying customers for Code Guardian.
What it trades with
Rubrik trades with security software peers Zscaler (ZS), Okta (OKTA), SentinelOne (S) and Netskope (NTSK). On 14 September 2026, Benzinga reported that security software rallied on AI-safety warnings while the Nasdaq 100 fell, so the group can move against broad tech on AI-risk headlines. The shares are also sensitive to long-term interest rates because Rubrik is still unprofitable on a GAAP basis. Its link to Anthropic's Claude models through Code Guardian and Agent Cloud ties part of the story to news from AI model providers.
Notes
- Rubrik's fiscal year ends 31 January; fiscal 2027 runs to 31 January 2027, so the quarter reported in December is fiscal Q3.
- Rubrik reports both GAAP and non-GAAP earnings; the Q2 FY27 non-GAAP profit of $0.20 per share sat beside a GAAP loss of $0.30 per share.
