How to read this
The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on 13 October 2026; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.
Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.
Kill line
A daily close below $90, under the $93.30 close of 5 October 2026 and the early-September trading range; or first-quarter organic sales growth below 3%, or a cut to the $3.10–$3.35 fiscal 2027 adjusted EPS guidance.
Open pick Medium conviction, opened at $99.73. Kill line at open: $90.00 (daily close); graded by at the latest.

Estée Lauder's turnaround now shows up in reported numbers. Fiscal 2026 adjusted operating margin rose 320 basis points to 11.2%, and in August the company raised its fiscal 2027 margin outlook. The case is for modest outperformance as cost cuts reach earnings. The fiscal first-quarter report, expected around 29 October 2026, settles it. Management has said growth will be weighted toward the first half, so that quarter is the first test of the guidance.
The company's 19 August 2026 results release showed fiscal 2026 net sales up 5% to $15.0 billion, with organic sales up 3%. Organic means excluding currency moves, acquisitions and divestitures. Adjusted diluted earnings per share (EPS) rose 66% to $2.51. Growth also sped up into the year end: fourth-quarter organic sales grew 5%, almost 200 basis points above consensus according to ad-hoc-news coverage of the print.
The narrative is maturing. The turnaround has been widely known since the company ended merger talks with Puig on 21 May 2026, and analysts are now split.
Bullish and bearish views on The Estee Lauder Companies Inc. Class A
The bull case on The Estee Lauder Companies Inc. Class A (EL), in brief: Margin guidance raised, not just affirmed. The bear case: Western markets are barely growing.
Bull case
- Margin guidance raised, not just affirmed. On 19 August 2026 the company raised its fiscal 2027 adjusted operating margin outlook to 12.7%–13.5%, up from 11.2% in fiscal 2026. It guided adjusted EPS to $3.10–$3.35, which is 24%–34% growth.
- Mainland China is growing again. Organic sales in mainland China rose 9% in fiscal 2026, the fastest of any region, according to the company's 19 August 2026 release.
- Restructuring delivered at the high end. The company reported a net reduction of 10,000 positions and $1.2 billion of gross restructuring benefits, both at the top of its range. Program approvals closed on 30 June 2026.
- Brand portfolio is broadening. Jo Malone London and TOM FORD became billion-dollar brands in fiscal 2026, taking the total to six, according to the 19 August 2026 release. Consumer-facing investment rose 7% in the fourth quarter and the full year.
- Fresh upgrade in October. Barclays upgraded the shares to Overweight on 5 October 2026 and raised its target to $108.
Bear case
- Western markets are barely growing. Organic sales rose only 1% in the Americas and 1% in Europe, the UK and emerging markets in fiscal 2026. The recovery therefore depends heavily on China and Asia.
- Second half guided softer. The fiscal 2027 outlook assumes stronger growth in the first half than in the second, citing product launch and travel retail timing. That leaves little room if launches disappoint.
- Targets are drifting lower. Wells Fargo kept Equal-Weight on 5 October 2026 and cut its target to $95, below the $100.04 close on 12 October 2026. The consensus average target fell to $107.48 in early October.
- Makeup is still a drag. The company's fiscal 2027 outlook relies on makeup returning to growth, which has not happened yet.
- Valuation already prices in recovery. At $100.04, the shares trade at about 31 times the $3.225 midpoint of fiscal 2027 adjusted EPS guidance.
Price setup
The shares closed at $100.04 on 12 October 2026 in adjusted daily closes. That is 15.5% below the 52-week high of $118.37 and 22.0% above the level three months earlier. The 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI), a momentum gauge on a 0–100 scale, stood at 49.4, a neutral reading. The shares have bounced from a $93.30 close on 5 October 2026, the day of the Barclays upgrade and the Wells Fargo cut.
Crowding signals are mixed. The 22% three-month gain and an earnings report about two weeks away argue for a sharp move on the print. The neutral RSI and the 15.5% gap below the high show the shares are not stretched. The shares jumped more than 10% in extended trading on 21 May 2026 when the Puig talks ended, so large moves around company events are part of how this stock trades.
Catalysts, next 30 days
- ~29 October 2026, est. fiscal 2027 first-quarter results. Last year's equivalent report came on 30 October 2025, and no date for this year had been announced as of 13 October 2026. This is the first quarter of the first-half-weighted guidance. Organic growth at or above the 3%–5% full-year range, plus an unchanged or raised EPS outlook, would support the case.
Elapsed catalysts
- Holiday selling season, October–December 2026. The US Holiday Blockbuster set launched on 6 October 2026. The second-quarter report, not expected until early 2027, will show how holiday sell-through went. (passed 8d ago)
What would change the view
The case breaks if the first-quarter report shows organic sales below the low end of the 3%–5% fiscal 2027 range, or if the company cuts the $3.10–$3.35 adjusted EPS outlook. Management has said the first half is the stronger half, so a weak first quarter would undercut the full-year plan. A slowdown in mainland China from its 9% fiscal 2026 pace would remove the main growth driver.
On price, a daily close below $90 would put the shares under the $93.30 close of 5 October 2026 and below the mid-$90s range of early September. That would mean the August rally had fully unwound.
What it trades with
The shares move with prestige beauty peers and Chinese consumer spending. Mainland China and Asia/Pacific were the two fastest-growing regions in fiscal 2026, at 9% and 4% organic growth. Travel retail timing directly affects the first-half guidance. US tariff policy is a separate driver: the company booked $38 million of refunds under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) in the fourth quarter, and its fiscal 2027 outlook assumes geopolitical conditions do not get materially worse. M&A headlines in prestige beauty can move the shares, as the 21 May 2026 reaction to the end of the Puig talks showed.
Notes
- The listed shares are Class A; Class B shares carry ten votes each and are held mainly by the Lauder family, which keeps voting control.
- The fiscal year ends 30 June, so the October report covers the July–September quarter, the first quarter of the fiscal year.
- The company pays a quarterly dividend; the most recent declared was $0.35 per share, payable 15 September 2026.

American Outdoor Brands, Inc.
American Outdoor Brands' 53.0% gross margin, raised profit guidance and new $10 million buyback support the shares, which closed at $16.44 on 12 October 2026; the fiscal second-quarter report on 3 December 2026 shows whether that margin holds.
ARHS
Arhaus, Inc.
Arhaus's furniture-order recovery is priced in part: the shares closed at $9.75 on 8 October 2026, and the estimated 5 November 2026 Q3 report must show delivered-sales growth above Q2's 4.0% to confirm that stronger orders became sales.
CRSR
Corsair Gaming, Inc.
Corsair Gaming's margin recovery has lifted profit estimates and a 42.9% three-month share gain; the third-quarter report, estimated for 3 November 2026, shows whether margins hold without the tariff refund and against rising memory costs.
GME
GameStop Corp. Class A
GameStop's CEO Ryan Cohen has bought shares four times on the open market since 10 September 2026 at rising prices, backing a cash-rich balance sheet and fast-growing collectibles sales. The 30 October 2026 warrant expiry, eBay's 4 November 2026 report and GameStop's December results decide whether the case holds.
