How to read this
The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on 12 October 2026; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.
Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.
Kill line
A daily close below $111.15, the 52-week high as of 25 September 2026 that the shares have since cleared. A third-quarter report with lower crude and product spot earnings and a dividend below $5.05 per share would also end the case.
Open pick Medium conviction, opened at $124.22. Kill line at open: $111.15 (daily close); graded by at the latest.

How picks are graded →The thesis
International Seaways' record second-quarter tanker earnings are now being matched by rising analyst targets, and the shares closed at a 52-week high of $121.82 on 8 October 2026. The third-quarter report, expected around 5 November 2026, settles whether spot earnings and the variable dividend held above the June-quarter level.
On 10 August 2026 the company reported second-quarter shipping revenue of $467 million against $196 million a year earlier, and net income of $295 million against $62 million. On 5 October 2026, B. Riley Securities was reported to have kept its Buy rating and raised its price target to $140. BTIG raised its target from $100 to $130 on 18 September 2026.
The narrative is still accelerating: the shares gained 48.5% over three months to the 8 October 2026 close, and two brokers have lifted targets in the last three weeks. The result is a price that already assumes the third-quarter numbers confirm the June quarter. That makes the report the event that decides the view.
Bullish and bearish views on International Seaways, Inc.
The bull case on International Seaways, Inc. (INSW), in brief: Earnings reached the income line. The bear case: Fewer earning days.
Bull case
- Earnings reached the income line. Second-quarter time-charter-equivalent revenue (shipping revenue after voyage costs) was $434 million against $189 million a year earlier, per the company's 10 August 2026 release. Net income rose to $295 million from $62 million.
- The balance sheet is close to debt-free. The company reported $935 million of liquidity at 30 June 2026, including $409 million of cash and short-term investments and a $526 million undrawn revolver. Its net loan-to-value ratio was about 6%.
- Cash returns follow earnings. The board declared a $5.05-per-share dividend on 7 August 2026, paid 24 September 2026, up from $4.55 paid in June 2026. The company's policy is to return at least 85% of adjusted net income, so a strong third quarter points to another large payout.
- Analysts keep raising targets. B. Riley's $140 target (reported 5 October 2026) and BTIG's $130 target (18 September 2026) both sit above the $121.82 close on 8 October 2026.
Bear case
- Fewer earning days. The company recorded 5,446 second-quarter revenue days against 6,570 a year earlier. Earnings rose on rates, so the result depends on rates staying high.
- The dividend is formula-driven. The $5.05 payout reflects one quarter's adjusted net income. If third-quarter spot earnings fall, the next declaration falls with them.
- The price has run ahead of the last report. The 25 September 2026 close was $105.64; the 8 October 2026 close was $121.82. The 14-day relative strength index (RSI, a 0–100 momentum gauge) was 68.1 on 8 October 2026, just under the 70 level often read as overbought.
- Third-quarter bookings are not disclosed. The 10 August 2026 release gave no forward guidance and the dated sources reviewed show no third-quarter spot rate update. The market is pricing a result that has not been reported.
Price setup
Adjusted daily closes put the 8 October 2026 close at $121.82, equal to the 52-week high, so the shares sit at their highest close of the past year. The prior 52-week high recorded on 25 September 2026 was $111.15, and the shares have since cleared it.
The three-month gain is 48.5%, and the RSI is 68.1. Breakouts to new highs on this kind of move have a mixed record in tanker shares, because spot rates reverse quickly. A close back below $111.15 would return the shares to the pre-breakout range and undo the new-high signal.
Crowding evidence that can be observed: the shares are at a 52-week high after a near-50% three-month gain, two brokers have raised targets since 18 September 2026, and earnings are due within the next month. No insider selling or share issuance is visible in company filings over the last 30 days.
Catalysts, next 30 days
- ~5 November 2026, est.: third-quarter 2026 results. Benzinga's earnings calendar lists 5 November 2026; the company had not confirmed the date in the sources reviewed. Last year it reported on 6 November 2025 after announcing the date on 22 October 2025.
- Before the report: company announcement of the date and conference call. This usually comes about two weeks ahead.
Elapsed catalysts
- Alongside the report: variable dividend declaration. The amount compares with $5.05 declared on 7 August 2026. (passed 67d ago)
What would change the view
The case breaks if third-quarter results show crude and product spot earnings falling below the second-quarter levels and the dividend declared is below $5.05 per share. The company's second-quarter release showed product carriers at about $42,600 per day, and crude tankers at about $64,500 or more.
A daily close below $111.15, the 52-week high as of 25 September 2026, would also end the case. It would put the shares back under the level they cleared in October.
A better-than-expected quarter with a larger dividend and a mid-quarter booking update showing fourth-quarter rates holding would strengthen the case. A single higher close does not settle it.
What it trades with
International Seaways trades with other listed tanker owners. STNG, a product-tanker owner, also drew a price-target increase in the 18 September 2026 analyst roundup that included INSW.
Crude and refined-product freight rates drive its earnings, so oil-market disruptions that lengthen voyages help and a return to normal trade routes hurts. The shares track tanker rate indices more closely than the S&P 500.
Notes
- The variable dividend follows a policy of returning at least 85% of adjusted net income, so each payout moves with that quarter's earnings.
- Tanker earnings are cyclical and reset quickly with spot rates; one record quarter does not fix the next quarter's results.

Tsakos Energy Navigation's earnings are rising with crude tanker rates that set records in early October 2026, and management said on 1 October that the third quarter is tracking ahead of the second. Calumet's case rests on Montana Renewables lifting sustainable aviation fuel output above an 80 million gallon annual run-rate by year-end 2026 for $137 million of remaining capital. The third-quarter report on 6 November 2026 is the next test of that cost and timetable.
