How to read this

The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on 9 October 2026; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.

Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.

Kill line

A daily close below $3.50, which would give back most of the rally that began in mid-September 2026; REC-4881 data at the 2 November 2026 CGA-IGC plenary that weaken the earlier Phase 2 signal would also break the case.

Not a pickResearch coverage at low conviction. A medium-or-higher call would open a pick on the scoreboard.

The thesis

Recursion Pharmaceuticals' early-October jump has already faded, and the shares still trade on short covering and hopes for the pipeline rather than on revenue. The REC-4881 polyposis data at the CGA-IGC Presidential Plenary on 2 November 2026 decide whether the lead drug can support the price.

Adjusted daily closes show how fast the move reversed. The shares closed at $4.78 on 5 October 2026, then $4.27 on 7 October 2026 and $3.95 on 8 October 2026. The 8 October 2026 close sits 41.8% below the 52-week high of $6.79. StocksToTrade reported an early-October intraday high near $5.19 on 8 October 2026, with no offering, downgrade or company release behind the drop. The 14-day relative strength index (RSI) has cooled to 52.0 as of 8 October 2026, from 77.1 on 5 October 2026.

The narrative is maturing: the AI drug-discovery story has been public since the 2021 listing, and the 5 October 2026 spike gave back most of its gain within three sessions on no new company news. The business has not changed since the 5 August 2026 second-quarter release. Revenue was $7.7 million, against $19.2 million a year earlier. The case for the shares rests on one dataset in late October and early November, and before that readout the evidence shows no edge over the S&P 500.

Bullish and bearish views on Recursion Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

The bull case on Recursion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (RXRX), in brief: Lead data has a plenary slot. The bear case: Revenue fell by more than half.

Bull case

  • Lead data has a plenary slot. The company's 5 August 2026 release places additional Phase 2 data for REC-4881, a MEK1/2 inhibitor for familial adenomatous polyposis, in Presidential Plenary I at the CGA-IGC meeting on 2 November 2026. The same release guides to an FDA update on a registrational path in the second half of 2026.
  • The company guides its runway "into early 2028" without new financing.
  • Spending guidance came down. On 5 August 2026 the company cut its 2026 cash operating expense guidance to under $375 million, from under $390 million.
  • Tempus turned optional fees into committed cash. On 21 September 2026 Tempus AI extended its data agreement through November 2029. Up to $84 million of discretionary fees became $42 million of committed payments over three years, per GenomeWeb and Investing.com.
  • ARK is still buying. Benzinga reported on 6 October 2026 that Cathie Wood's ARK funds bought Recursion shares while selling Twist Bioscience. Gotrade's stock page lists ARK's combined ARKK and ARKG holding at 40.46 million shares as of 2 October 2026.

Bear case

  • Revenue fell by more than half. Second-quarter 2026 revenue was $7.7 million against $19.2 million a year earlier, and the net loss was $131.0 million, per the 5 August 2026 release. Cash fell from $753.9 million on 31 December 2025 to $556.8 million on 30 June 2026.
  • The October spike did not hold. The shares closed at $3.95 on 8 October 2026, 17% below the $4.78 close of 5 October 2026, per adjusted daily closes. StocksToTrade described a failed push above $5 with no company news attached.
  • Insiders have only sold. Quiver Quantitative counted 14 insider sales and no purchases over the six months to 5 October 2026. Two of those sales, by Chief Executive Officer Najat Khan, totaled about $163,281.
  • Heavy shorting cuts both ways. Short interest was 33.39% of float on 2 October 2026, per GuruFocus and Simply Wall St. Covering lifted the shares quickly into 5 October 2026 and the gain faded just as quickly.
  • Analyst targets are mostly neutral. Recent targets listed by TipRanks run from Morgan Stanley's $5.50 Equalweight (14 May 2026) and Bank of America's $6.00 Hold (7 August 2026) to Needham's $8.00 Buy (5 August 2026). None of those firms has changed its view since the second-quarter report.

Price setup

The last close was $3.95 on 8 October 2026. The 52-week high is $6.79, 41.8% above that close. Over three months the shares are up 19.7%, per adjusted daily closes.

StocksToTrade reported on 8 October 2026 that the shares had climbed roughly 60% from mid-September lows in the low $3s to an intraday high near $5.19 in early October. The same report noted trading support around $3.70 to $3.80 and resistance at $4.80 to $5.00. A daily close below $3.50 would give back most of that mid-September-to-October rally and put the shares back in the range they held before the Tempus deal.

The RSI of 52.0 on 8 October 2026 is neutral. The overbought reading of early October has fully cleared. Crowding comes from short interest above a third of the float, active call trading reported by Quiver Quantitative on 5 October 2026, and a binary data date about three weeks away.

Catalysts, next 30 days

  • 2 November 2026 — Additional REC-4881 Phase 2 data in Presidential Plenary I at the CGA-IGC Annual Meeting in Denver (1:30–3:00 PM MST), per the company's 5 August 2026 release. This is the main dated test of the lead drug.
  • ~4 November 2026, est. — Third-quarter 2026 financial report. It updates cash, spending against the under-$375 million guide and the timing of the REC-4881 FDA update. The company has not confirmed the date.
  • ~31 December 2026, est. — FDA registrational-path update for REC-4881 and more REC-1245 Phase 1 data, both guided to the second half of 2026. This falls outside the 30-day window. The case depends on it because it shows what a registration trial would cost and how long it would take.

What would change the view

The case breaks if the REC-4881 data on 2 November 2026 show a smaller polyp-burden reduction or worse tolerability than the earlier Phase 2 readout. That would remove the nearest path to a registrational program. A cut to the "into early 2028" runway guidance or an equity offering at the third-quarter report would also weaken it, because the pipeline would then be funded by dilution.

On price, a daily close below $3.50 would erase most of the rally that began in mid-September 2026 and show that short covering, not the Tempus deal, drove it.

The read would improve if the plenary data hold the earlier signal and the FDA confirms a registrational path that one trial can satisfy. A sustained recovery above the $4.80 to $5.00 range reported as resistance on 8 October 2026, together with falling short interest, would show real buying rather than covering.

What it trades with

The shares trade with small-cap biotech and with AI-themed growth names. They also track the precision-biotech group (Kodiak Sciences, Iovance, Moderna, Schrödinger, ImmunityBio), whose attention cooled again in the week to 9 October 2026 after a brief pickup earlier in October. A cooling group raises the bar for a single-name rally. Schrödinger is the closest peer on the computational drug-discovery story. ARK fund flows matter: ARK's ARKK and ARKG are large holders, and their buying or selling has moved the shares on days with no company news. Short-interest-driven moves also tie the shares loosely to other heavily shorted names on the same squeeze lists.

Notes

  • Recursion has no approved products; revenue comes from partnership and license fees and can swing sharply from quarter to quarter.
  • The company's cash runway guidance of 'into early 2028' assumes no additional financing; a shorter runway would raise the likelihood of share issuance.
  • Short interest above 30% of float makes the shares prone to sharp moves in either direction that have no link to company news.
  • ARK Investment Management's ARKK and ARKG funds are large holders, and their daily trades can move the shares on days without company news.
