How to read this
The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on 22 October 2026; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.
Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.
Kill line
A daily close below $9.50, which would show the market has dropped the takeover premium. A second break is Q3 2026 Recorlev revenue at or below Q2's $56.8 million, or full-year guidance cut below $385 million.
Open pick Medium conviction, opened at $10.86. Kill line at open: $9.50 (daily close); graded by at the latest.

Xeris Biopharma's case rests on Recorlev, its Cushing's syndrome drug: Recorlev sales rose 81% to $56.8 million in the second quarter of 2026, and a reported takeover approach from Lundbeck adds a second source of support. The third-quarter report, expected around 5 November 2026, settles whether Recorlev growth holds up to the full-year revenue guidance of $385 million to $390 million.
The shares closed at $10.79 on 21 October 2026, 3.1% below their 52-week high of $11.13 and up 29.6% over three months. At that price the market is pricing in both the sales growth and some chance of a deal. The narrative is accelerating: since Bloomberg's 29 September 2026 report of Lundbeck's interest, Barclays raised its target on 6 October 2026 and the company filed new patent suits on 13 October 2026.
Bullish and bearish views on Xeris Biopharma Holdings, Inc.
The bull case on Xeris Biopharma Holdings, Inc. (XERS), in brief: Recorlev now drives the company. The bear case: Two of three products are flat or shrinking.
Bull case
- Recorlev now drives the company. Recorlev net revenue was $56.8 million in the quarter ended 30 June 2026, up 81% year on year and about 62% of the $91.0 million in net product revenue, according to the company's second-quarter release filed on Form 8-K.
- Higher margins and positive operating earnings. Gross margin rose to 86% from 82%, and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) reached $19.3 million, up from $12.5 million, according to the 6 August 2026 release.
- A strategic buyer has shown interest. Bloomberg reported on 29 September 2026 that H. Lundbeck is working with advisers on a possible acquisition of Xeris, which had a market value of about $1.8 billion at the time. Lundbeck's two largest products are Rexulti and Vyepti, so Xeris's endocrinology franchise would be a new area for it.
- Patent protection keeps getting longer. Xeris filed suits in the District of New Jersey on 13 October 2026 against Torrent, Cycle, Lemed and Rising over generic dichlorphenamide, citing the newly granted Keveyis patent No. 12,758,502, according to its 8-K. A second XP-8121 patent (No. 12,691,089) was granted on 28 July 2026.
- The sell side is raising targets. Barclays kept an Overweight rating and raised its price target to $14 on 6 October 2026.
Bear case
- Two of three products are flat or shrinking. Second-quarter Gvoke revenue fell 4% to $22.5 million and Keveyis rose 2% to $11.7 million, per the 6 August 2026 release. The whole growth case depends on one drug.
- Guidance was narrowed, not raised. On 6 August 2026 management tightened full-year 2026 revenue guidance to $385 million to $390 million after a strong first half. A third quarter that only matches that range leaves little room above it.
- The company says it is not for sale. A Xeris spokeswoman told Bloomberg the company is "not for sale," as Investing.com reported on 29 September 2026. If Lundbeck walks away, any takeover premium in the shares could disappear.
- The balance sheet still carries debt. On 30 June 2026 Xeris held $121.7 million in cash against about $252.6 million of debt carrying value ($63.8 million current, $188.8 million long-term). The 2028 convertible notes were exchanged and converted in June and July 2026, producing a non-cash charge of about $31 million and a net loss of $31.1 million for the quarter.
- Generic challenges to Recorlev. Torrent, Somerset, Sandoz and Zydus filed Paragraph IV challenges to Recorlev's patents. Xeris sued in February and March 2026 and seeks protection until March 2040, and the FY2025 10-K says no trial date has been set.
Price setup
The shares closed at $10.79 on 21 October 2026, against a 52-week high of $11.13. They gained 29.6% over three months, and the 14-day relative strength index (RSI), a momentum gauge where 70 marks stretched buying, stands at 68.7. Most of that rise came after the 29 September 2026 Bloomberg report, so part of the price now depends on deal talk rather than reported sales.
There are signs of crowding. Momentum is near the stretched line, the price is close to its high, and the third-quarter report is about two weeks away. On the other side, the 2028 convertible notes are gone, so that source of new shares has been removed.
Catalysts, next 30 days
- ~5 November 2026 (est.): third-quarter 2026 results and call. Last year's report came on 6 November 2025, before the market opened. Key items are Recorlev revenue against second-quarter's $56.8 million, whether full-year guidance moves from $385 million to $390 million, and any comment on outside approaches.
- No date: any formal Lundbeck proposal or a public statement that talks have ended.
- Later in 2026 (company guidance): the pivotal Phase 3 trial of XP-8121 is expected to start.
Elapsed catalysts
- Late October 2026 (est.): the company announces its earnings date. Last year Xeris did this on 23 October 2025. (passed 365d ago)
What would change the view
The case breaks if Recorlev growth stalls. Third-quarter Recorlev revenue at or below second-quarter's $56.8 million, or full-year guidance cut below $385 million, would mean the one growth driver has peaked. The takeover support breaks if Lundbeck or Xeris says talks have ended while the shares still trade near the 52-week high.
On price, a daily close below $9.50 would show that the market has stopped pricing in a deal. That is more than a dollar below the $10.79 close on 21 October 2026.
What it trades with
Xeris trades mostly on its own news: quarterly Recorlev sales, the takeover reports and patent rulings. Its business has little in common with the other names in the precision-biotech group, Moderna (MRNA), Iovance (IOVA) and Silence Therapeutics (SLN), which trade on clinical and vaccine news rather than the launch of an approved drug. Broad small-cap biotech selling would still weigh on the shares. A Lundbeck deal or a collapse of talks would swamp any link to the sector.
Notes
- Recorlev faces Paragraph IV generic challenges from Torrent, Somerset, Sandoz and Zydus in the District of New Jersey. Xeris seeks protection to March 2040, and no trial date has been set.
- Xeris has three marketed products (Recorlev, Gvoke, Keveyis). Recorlev alone made up about 62% of net product revenue in Q2 2026.
