Regime NeutralMarket regime
Neutral — as of the last close.
The week in review
The model's close-of-day read is neutral, its first neutral print, a flip from risk-on. That downgrade came as volatility woke up, which is the part worth sitting with: VIX printed an elevated 21.51, up from 15.40 the session before. The S&P closed at 737.45, +8.6% above its 200-EMA at 679.10, and breadth slipped to a mixed 52.6% (514 of 978 names above their own 50-day EMA) from a healthy 61.8%. Index extension on one side; rising vol, thinning breadth and a model that no longer wants to call it risk-on on the other.
The rates tape added to the caution. The 2Y closed at 4.05% (week over week +7bps) and the 10Y at 4.47% (week over week +2bps); the 10Y-2Y spread tightened to 0.38% (week over week -9bps). Inflation expectations eased the 10Y breakeven at 2.36% (week over week -2bps) while the real 10Y firmed to 2.11% (week over week +4bps). Credit stayed unbothered: high-yield spreads at 2.74% (week over week +2bps), still tight. The labor print added a small crack initial jobless claims at 225K (week over week +13K), with unemployment at 4.3% and payrolls at 159.0M as of the May reference. Fed funds remain 3.63%. A flatter curve plus a claims uptick is the kind of mix that pulls a model off risk-on without anything actually breaking.
Themes in motion
The AI complex did the heavy lifting and stayed in gear. Eight of the ten tracked narratives are accelerating: AI chips/foundry/memory supercycle (11 names), optical networking & datacenter interconnect (6), datacenter power/cooling/thermal (7), neoclouds & BTC-to-AI compute pivots (7), AI server & storage OEMs (5), analog/RF & compound-semi materials/test (9), and Cybersecurity & identity software (8). High-velocity small-cap momentum (5) is also accelerating.
Two themes have rolled into maturing: space launch, satellites & defense-tech (10 names) and mega-cap AI platforms & enterprise software (9). Maturing isn't dead but those two get worked on pullbacks to support, not on breakout chases, while the accelerating cohort gets the aggressive treatment.
Under the lens
Sixty-four dossiers were deep-refreshed this week, weighted hard toward the semis-and-power spine of the AI trade. The reads that matter:
- TSM (Taiwan Semiconductor): the week's single HIGH-conviction name. Foundry at the center of an accelerating supercycle, with a catalyst on the near calendar the cleanest setup in the book right now.
- ASML, AVGO, AMD: the chip/foundry leadership; refreshed and still riding the accelerating theme. ALAB (Astera Labs) carries the interconnect read-through.
- AAOI (Applied Optoelectronics): optical interconnect, where datacenter spend keeps pulling demand forward.
- CEG (Constellation Energy), CCJ (Cameco): the power-and-fuel side of the datacenter buildout the bottleneck thesis, not the silicon one.
- CRWV (CoreWeave), APLD (Applied Digital), HUT (Hut 8): neocloud and BTC-to-AI compute pivots; HUT also carries a catalyst next week.
- Semicap (AEHR, ACLS, ACMR) and analog (ADI, ALGM): the picks-and-shovels layer under the foundry story, all in accelerating themes.
- COIN, HOOD, CRCL (Circle): the crypto-rails complex, refreshed alongside the compute names.
The throughline: capital concentrating in the accelerating semis/power cluster, where cluster confirmation across peers is the setup, not noise.
The week ahead
The calendar is dense. TSM (6/10, T-4d) is the one to watch the highest-conviction name carries a catalyst, and UMC (6/10, T-4d) sits right beside it as a foundry-peer read-through. AAPL (6/8, T-2d) lands inside the three-session window where this book stands aside on binary risk; conviction in the name doesn't override the calendar. CSCO (6/8), HUT (6/9), CECO (6/9), IESC (6/9), EXTR (6/10), KALV (6/10) and USO (6/10) fill out the week, with CLSK (6/6) and BTE (6/7) front-loaded.
Into next week: watch whether the accelerating semis/power cluster holds its bid through the TSM/UMC prints, and whether the curve keeps flattening. A neutral regime says size with respect for the rates tape let the catalysts confirm the narratives before leaning in.
