Against its published line

Nothing is through its line on this close.

How to read this

The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the pick wrong. The dot is where the name closed on 10 September 2026; a dot LEFT of the mark has closed through its line.

Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row stops competing and reads well clear, with a hollow dot to say the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.

How a pick resolves

Current thesis

Two macro prints set the whole September range: a 10.1% surge to $192.70 on 2026-09-03 on Waller's hold signal and bitcoin above $81,000, then roughly 4% back on 09-04 as August payrolls printed +162,000 and hike odds moved to ~50%. The 200-day at $196.07 was never closed through, and the 09-15 cloture vote is priced at 14–15% into a maturing narrative with no company datapoint until early November.

Kill line

A weekly close below $160 surrenders the 2026-08-19 gap-bottom close of $160.20 and the 08-28 50-day at $160.11 together, re-pointing at the $139.11–$145.60 shelf; secondarily, the 09-15 cloture motion being pulled or finishing short of 60 votes while the 09-16 FOMC delivers the hike priced near 50%.

Latest analysis and events for COIN —

As of 6 September 2026, the latest FrontierPicks analysis for Coinbase Global, Inc. (COIN): 15 July 2026: Piper cut PT $180 -> $155. The old $180 bear anchor is stale; live anchor cluster is $142-$155 (Baird $142, Piper $155), with Barclays $99 the outlier and Citizens $325 the high.

Current Thesis

Two macro prints, 24 hours apart, set the entire September range without a single company disclosure in between. On 2026-09-03 the adjusted series printed $192.70, a 10.1% session, after Fed Governor Waller signalled he could back a September hold and bitcoin traded above $81,000 — clearing the 08-25 peak of $80,797.35 — with RSI(14) at 67.3. On 2026-09-04 the August employment report landed at +162,000 with July revised upward, Polymarket's September hike contract moved from roughly 40% to 50% on over $93M of volume, bitcoin fell back under $80,000, and the shares gave back roughly 4% (Yahoo Finance/Benzinga, 09-04).

The 200-day average of $196.07 (stockanalysis.com, 08-28) was not closed through on the strongest session of the sequence. The narrative is maturing — the story is well known across 34 covering analysts averaging $199.07, it still moves with bitcoin, but the flow behind the one dated federal catalyst has thinned: Kalshi's market-structure contract went from 21% last traded on 09-02 to 15% on 09-05, and the 09-03 breakout attempt was reversed inside one session.

Bullish and bearish views on Coinbase Global, Inc.

The model's bull view on Coinbase Global, Inc. (COIN), in brief: 2026-09-03: bitcoin above $81,000, the first print through the 08-25 high. The bear view: 2026-07-30: Q2 EPS -$1.36 against -$0.01 consensus, revenue -18.5% YoY, Q3 subscription-and-services guided $500–580M against $633.9M FactSet consensus. Both cases follow in full.

Bull Case

  • 2026-09-03: bitcoin above $81,000, the first print through the 08-25 high. A five-year beta of 3.36 transmits that at a multiple, and did — $174.96 on 09-02 to $192.70 on 09-03.
  • 2026-09-04: the same jobs print that hit the equity raises the rate path underneath the stablecoin line. Benzinga's own 09-04 framing noted higher rates could help stablecoin revenue; Circle disclosed on 2026-08-05 that the distribution agreement — roughly half of USDC reserve interest accruing to Coinbase — renewed on unchanged terms.
  • 2026-09-15, 2:15 p.m. ET: cloture on the motion to proceed to H.R. 3633 is still on the calendar (verified 09-05). Passage is priced at 14–15% on Polymarket and 15% on Kalshi, so there is no priced-in win embedded in the tape to hand back.
  • 2026-08-28: Cantor's Ramsey El-Assal moved to $212 from $184 on 19x CY2027 adjusted EBITDA of $2.68B; Goldman's James Yaro went $173 → $196 on 08-25 at Buy; Bernstein held $330 on 08-21.
  • 2026-08-28: short interest 22.92M shares, 10.43% of float, 2.99 days to cover, down from 25.05M / 11.40% / 3.23 on 08-04 — a shrinking but still material short base.
  • 2026-07-30 (Q2 2026): record 10.3% U.S. spot share, opex cut 7% QoQ to $1.33B, adjusted EBITDA $207.8M — a fourteenth consecutive positive adjusted-EBITDA quarter.
  • 2026-09-02 / 09-01: regulated crypto derivatives launched in Canada (23 futures on BTC, ETH, SOL plus commodity and index contracts, up to 10x, CFTC exemptions, eligibility capped at institutions and individuals with $5M+ in net financial assets), and Anthony Armstrong, former CFO of xAI and X Corp, joined the board.

Bear Case

  • 2026-07-30: Q2 EPS -$1.36 against -$0.01 consensus, revenue -18.5% YoY, Q3 subscription-and-services guided $500–580M against $633.9M FactSet consensus. Nothing company-dated lands between now and the early-November print.
  • 2026-09-05: the market-implied odds on the only scheduled federal re-rating are being marked down into the event — Kalshi 21% (09-02) to 15% (09-05). Cloture needs 60 votes against 53 Republican seats; Gillibrand has conditioned support on an enforceable officials-profiting ban since 08-24, and Gallego warned on 08-19 that a forced vote could break the bipartisan coalition.
  • 2026-08-28: the 200-day at $196.07 has capped every attempt since the shares halved from $387.27, and the low sell-side anchors sit unrevised beneath it — Barclays $95 Underweight (restated in 09-04 coverage), Baird $142, Piper $155.
  • 2026-08-24: Coinbase-issued tokenized stocks went live on Base with 13 tickers and day-one figures of $10.8M in 24-hour volume, roughly $4.5M minted onchain and $3M of DEX liquidity — against $1.33B of quarterly opex, and available only to eligible users outside the U.S.
  • 2026-08-29: a federal appeals court held that Nevada can regulate Kalshi, deepening the preemption fight around the prediction-market line that passed roughly $100M annualized in Q2.
  • The 3.36 beta is symmetric. The 09-03/09-04 pair is the demonstration: one dovish signal and one hot payroll print produced a double-digit advance and a 4% give-back with zero change in the business.

Setup & Price Structure

The reference close is $192.70 on 2026-09-03, with roughly 4% surrendered on 09-04 per Yahoo Finance and Benzinga mover coverage. That leaves the tape between two dated lines: the 200-day at $196.07 overhead and, below, the 08-19 gap-bottom close of $160.20 sitting on the 50-day at $160.11 (both stockanalysis.com, 08-28). Losing that pair together re-points at the $139.11–$145.60 shelf.

On crowding, the observables are mixed rather than uniform. Attention is clustered: two Benzinga single-name mover pieces on COIN inside 48 hours (09-03 surge, 09-04 slide), plus options-scanner whale items on 09-01 and 09-02. Short interest fell from 11.40% of float (08-04) to 10.43% (08-28), which removes some of the fuel that drove the August advance. Form 4 sales printed near an average of $188.75 on 08-24 with no offsetting open-market purchases disclosed. Sell-side dispersion runs $95 to $330 across 34 analysts (stockanalysis.com, 09-02), so there is no consensus fair value the tape can converge to; the average of $199.07 sits within 4% of the 200-day, which is where the rejection keeps happening.

No current theme cluster in the registry carries this name, so the move is a single-name expression of crypto beta and rate-path repricing rather than participation in a group.

Catalyst Calendar (next 30 days)

  • 2026-09-14 — Senate returns from recess; floor time competes with fiscal year-end funding.
  • 2026-09-15, 2:15 p.m. ET — cloture on the motion to proceed to H.R. 3633. Sixty votes required; 14–15% priced.
  • 2026-09-16 — FOMC decision. September hike odds moved to roughly 50% on Polymarket after the 09-04 jobs print.
  • 2026-09-16 — Circle public mainnet launch, per its 2026-08-05 release; tests the USDC circulation base under the reserve-income line.
  • ~2026-09-30 (est.) — Q3 2026 quarter end; the $500–580M subscription-and-services guide stops being forward-looking.
  • ~2026-10-02 (est.) — September employment report; the 09-04 reaction dates how much this input moves the equity.
  • ~2026-10-19 (est.) — close of the SEC's 60-day comment period on the token-offering exemptions announced 2026-08-19.

What Would Change Our Mind

The structure that has to hold is the 08-19 gap bottom resting on the 50-day, because those two levels converged within nine cents on 08-28 and have not been tested since. A weekly close below $160 breaks both at once and opens the $139.11–$145.60 shelf, which is the gradeable condition. Separately, the case weakens without a price break if the 09-15 motion is pulled from the calendar or finishes short of 60 votes while the 09-16 FOMC delivers the hike now priced near a coin flip — that combination removes the only dated federal re-rating and adds the adverse macro input, with no company disclosure until early November to replace either.

On the other side, the case strengthens on a weekly close above $196.07, which would be the first reclaim of the 200-day since the drawdown from $387.27, particularly if it comes with short interest holding near the 10.43% reported on 08-28 rather than continuing to bleed.

Correlation Notes

The equity is currently a rate-path instrument wearing a crypto ticker. Bitcoin's path — $78,000 on 08-28 after Jackson Hole, a peak of $80,797.35 on 08-25, above $81,000 on 09-03, back under $80,000 on 09-04 — maps directly onto the equity at a 3.36 five-year beta. The upstream driver is the Treasury curve: the 10-year hit a 19-month high on 09-01 with hike odds at 68%, Waller's 09-03 remarks unwound that, and the 09-04 payroll print rebuilt it to roughly 50%.

The name also co-moves with the listed crypto-adjacent complex — Circle and Strategy among them, both of which appear on the 08-24 Base tokenized-stock list alongside COIN itself. That linkage cuts against diversification: the stablecoin leg that is supposed to be the non-beta engine was marked down by JPMorgan on 07-14 over Hyperliquid competition, and it shares the same rate input as the trading leg, in the opposite direction.

Notes

  • 2026-04-19: Coinbase — BTC/ETH beta + stablecoin-revenue narrative
  • 2026-06-05: Baird cut PT to $142 (Neutral) — new sell-side downside anchor, ~18% below the 6/4 $173.99 print and under the prior Piper $180 bear target.
  • 2026-06-03: MSTR/Strategy SOLD BTC, reversing the 4/20 $2.54B buy — the treasury-demand bid that anchored the prior bull case is gone.
  • 2026-07-10: Circle OCC national-trust-bank approval re-legitimized the stablecoin-infra leg (theme flipped accelerating 7/6); COIN captures ~50% of USDC reserve interest.
  • 2026-07-09: Target dispersion extreme and resetting down — Citizens $325, BTIG $260, Piper $180, Baird $142, Barclays $99.
  • 2026-07-15: Piper cut PT $180 -> $155. The old $180 bear anchor is stale; live anchor cluster is $142-$155 (Baird $142, Piper $155), with Barclays $99 the outlier and Citizens $325 the high.
  • 2026-07-14: JPMorgan cut COIN + CRCL EPS over Hyperliquid - the stablecoin leg (the supposed non-beta engine) is now being marked down by a bulge-bracket desk. Watch whether USDC reserve-yield share holds.
  • 2026-07-14: ~$289M BTC/ETH moved from US-government-linked wallets to Coinbase (Arkham). Track disposition - confirmed sales cap the tape independent of CLARITY.
  • Dual-class structure: Class B shares carry 20 votes each. Molly Abraham became General Counsel after CLO Paul Grewal's 2026-07-31 departure.
  • Five-year beta is 3.36; the shares amplify a crypto allocation in both directions rather than diversifying it.
  • Coinbase-issued tokenized stocks and the portfolios built on them are available only outside the U.S.; no domestic revenue base exists for that line.
  • Roughly half of USDC reserve interest accrues to Coinbase; Circle disclosed on 2026-08-05 that the distribution agreement renewed on unchanged terms.
  • Sell-side dispersion spans $95 to $330 across 34 analysts (stockanalysis.com, 2026-09-02), so there is no consensus fair value to anchor to.
  • Prediction-market revenue passed ~$100M annualized in Q2 2026 and is contested by the NY AG, the CFTC, the NYC Council and the 2026-08-29 Nevada appellate ruling against Kalshi.
