Against its published line

Above its line on the last close.

How to read this

The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on 27 October 2026; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.

Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.

Kill line

A daily close below $10.75, which would put the shares under every analyst target named in October and extend the October sell-off. A cut to the 2026 adjusted EBIT guidance below $10.0 billion at the 28 October 2026 report would also break the case.

Not a pickResearch coverage at low conviction. A medium-or-higher call would open a pick on the scoreboard.

The thesis

Ford Motor's shares are more likely to trail the S&P 500 than beat it over the next three months. They have fallen 23.4% in three months into a third-quarter report that has to defend the company's 2026 adjusted EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) guidance of $10.0–11.0 billion. The report is due on 28 October 2026. It decides whether the October sell-off was the auto sector falling together or a fair price for lower earnings at Ford.

The low valuation is real. The Barchart consensus on 5 October 2026 had 2026 adjusted earnings at $1.86 a share, against $1.09 in fiscal 2025, and the shares closed at $11.58 on 26 October 2026. The headwinds are just as real: three analyst target cuts in October, a supplier stoppage on the F-150, a recall of 102,159 vehicles, and 10-year Treasury yields above 5.3% while Ford has debt coming due.

The narrative is maturing. Investors know the truck-profit and cost-cutting story well. Goldman Sachs, UBS and JPMorgan all lowered their targets between 6 October 2026 and 12 October 2026, and none of them raised one.

Bullish and bearish views on Ford Motor Company

The bull case on Ford Motor Company (F), in brief: Truck business guidance was raised. The bear case: Analysts cut targets ahead of the report.

Bull case

  • Truck business guidance was raised. Management raised its 2026 Ford Blue EBIT guidance to $5.0–5.5 billion from $4.5–5.0 billion. Ford Blue is the gasoline and hybrid vehicle unit. The group-wide adjusted EBIT range has stood at $10.0–11.0 billion since the 28 July 2026 second-quarter report.
  • Earnings per share are expected to rise steeply. On 5 October 2026, Barchart's consensus had 2026 adjusted earnings at $1.86 a share, up 70.6% from $1.09 in 2025. The 26 October 2026 close of $11.58 puts a low multiple on that estimate.
  • Supplier stoppage said to be contained. Ford's 8-K of 2 October 2026 said a short-term supplier issue, unrelated to aluminum, affected F-150 production at the end of September. The company said the impact is containable within its full-year adjusted EBIT guidance.
  • Analyst targets still sit above the price. After the October cuts, JPMorgan rates the shares Overweight with a $16 target (12 October 2026) and UBS rates them Buy with a $15 target (7 October 2026). Barchart's mean target across 21 analysts was $15.45 on 5 October 2026.
  • The company attributed most of the drop to the planned phase-out of the Escape and the Lincoln Corsair.

Bear case

  • Analysts cut targets ahead of the report. Goldman Sachs kept its Neutral rating and cut its target to $14 (6 October 2026). UBS cut to $15 and JPMorgan to $16 in the following week. Zacks noted that third-quarter EPS estimates fell by 2 cents in the seven days before its preview, to $0.39.
  • Third-quarter earnings are expected to fall. Barchart's consensus of $0.41 a share is 8.9% below the $0.45 Ford earned in the third quarter of 2025. Third-quarter wholesale shipments also absorb the F-150 stoppage.
  • Peer reports met selling. In the week ending 23 October 2026, GM fell 9.6% after its third-quarter report, despite a $20 billion buyback. Ford fell 6.68% to $11.60 that week, and coverage linked the drop to the sector rather than to news about Ford.
  • Rates and trade policy work against the shares. Benzinga reported on 6 October 2026 that Ford has billions in debt coming due while the 10-year Treasury yield is above 5.3%. On 15 October 2026, Commerce Secretary Lutnick objected to large cuts in tariffs on Mexican steel and aluminum.
  • Quality costs continue. On 20 October 2026, Ford recalled 102,159 vehicles, including the 2025–2026 F-250 Super Duty and the 2026 F-150, over gauges that may stick or move erratically.

Price setup

The split- and dividend-adjusted close on 26 October 2026 was $11.58. That is 32.9% below the 52-week high of $17.25 and 23.4% lower than three months earlier. The 14-day relative strength index (RSI), a momentum gauge running from 0 to 100, stood at 32.5, close to the 30 level usually read as oversold.

The fall sped up in October. Benzinga recorded a close of $12.16 on 19 October 2026, down more than 2% on a day the broader market rose. The 23 October 2026 close was $11.60.

The observable crowding comes from the earnings date, not from retail buying. The shares are far below their high, the report is one session away, and analysts are cutting estimates going into it.

Catalysts, next 30 days

  • 28 October 2026: third-quarter 2026 report, expected after the market close with a call at 5:00 p.m. ET (MarketBeat's estimate). The report shows whether the $10.0–11.0 billion 2026 adjusted EBIT guidance holds after the F-150 stoppage, the recall and aluminum costs. It also shows whether Ford Blue's raised range holds.
  • 28 October 2026: Stellantis third-quarter report and the Federal Reserve's policy decision. Detroit auto stocks moved together in the week of 23 October 2026. The yield path also bears on Ford's refinancing costs.
  • 2026-10 to 2026-11: US–Mexico trade talks, with no date set. Any change to tariffs on Mexican steel, aluminum or vehicles feeds directly into Ford's cost guidance.

What would change the view

A cut to the 2026 adjusted EBIT guidance below $10.0 billion on 28 October 2026 would break the case for a recovery. So would Ford quantifying a Novelis aluminum or F-150 supplier cost that it had previously called containable. A weekly close back under $10.75 would show the market expects more downside even after the report. That would leave the shares trading below every level analysts named in October.

The read would turn more positive if the report held or raised the guidance, kept the Ford Blue range of $5.0–5.5 billion, and the shares then closed back above $12.43, the 16 October 2026 weekly close. That close was the level before the sector sell-off in the week of 23 October 2026. Under those conditions, the earnings estimates would support the gap to the $14–16 analyst targets.

What it trades with

Ford trades with GM and Stellantis. In the week ending 23 October 2026, Ford fell 6.68%, GM 9.6% and Stellantis about 8% intraday on 23 October 2026. Aluminum supply matters through Novelis, whose plant Ford Authority reported in 2026-02 had not fully recovered from fires in 2025. EV sentiment matters far less for the shares than truck margins do.

Notes

  • Ford has a dual-class share structure: Class B shares held by the Ford family carry a large block of voting power, separate from the economic interest of common shareholders.
  • Ford's results include Ford Credit, its finance arm, so funding costs and credit losses there affect group earnings alongside vehicle margins.
