Kill line
A daily close below $11.77, the 21 July 2026 first-day opening price of the shares after the merger. A Freenome or Abbott announcement pausing or restricting SimpleScreen CRC availability would also break the case.

Freenome's colorectal cancer blood test is on sale through Abbott, and a second product, a lung cancer blood test, launched on 20 October 2026. The shares closed at $13.04 on 27 October 2026, up from $12.19 on 14 October 2026 and 23.8% below the $17.11 52-week high. No reported figure yet measures royalties or testing volume, so the Q3 report (~18 November 2026, est.) and the fourth-quarter report settle whether the sell-off was overdone.
The narrative is maturing but has a new strand: approval (27 July 2026), the colorectal launch (30 September 2026) and the updated-data disappointment (13 October 2026) are public, and the lung launch on 20 October 2026 added fresh attention. TIKR reported the shares rose 11% on the lung launch day, after an 11% fall the week before. The 14-day relative strength index (RSI), a momentum gauge where readings near 30 are usually called oversold, was 32.3 on 27 October 2026.
The view is wrong if the shares close below $11.77, the post-merger first-day opening price, or if Abbott or Freenome pauses availability of the colorectal test.
Bullish and bearish views on Freenome, Inc.
The bull case on Freenome, Inc. (FRNM), in brief: The colorectal test is commercially available. The bear case: The lung test has weak specificity and no FDA review.
Bull case
- The colorectal test is commercially available. Abbott launched SimpleScreen CRC in the US on 30 September 2026. MedTech Dive reported that eligible Medicare patients pay nothing out of pocket under Part B.
- Abbott has already paid a milestone. FDA approval on 27 July 2026 triggered a $100 million milestone payable by Abbott to Freenome (Freenome).
- A lung test adds revenue Abbott does not control. Freenome announced SimpleScreen Lung on 20 October 2026 for adults aged 50 to 80 with a smoking history of at least 20 pack-years. In an independent cohort of 172 cases and 436 controls it showed 85% sensitivity (82% for stage I) and a 99.8% negative predictive value (BioSpace). TIKR's author called it the company's best route to revenue Abbott does not control, because Abbott's exclusive US rights cover the colorectal test when ordered alone.
- Analysts still forecast growth. TIKR reported on 13 October 2026 that five analysts expect revenue of $102 million in fiscal 2026 and $208 million in fiscal 2028. MarketScreener showed a mean target of $18.00 from five analysts, and Guggenheim's $21 target is the highest.
Bear case
- The lung test has weak specificity and no FDA review. Specificity was 50%, so about half of people without lung cancer would test positive and need a follow-up low-dose CT scan (TIKR, 23 October 2026). It is a laboratory-developed test; the FDA granted Breakthrough Device Designation on 12 August 2026 but has not authorized it for screening.
- No payer coverage is reported for the lung test. TIKR said the launch coverage did not address reimbursement, and its author expected health systems to move slowly until coverage exists. Pricing was not disclosed in the coverage reviewed.
- The updated colorectal data disappointed. Cancer sensitivity stayed flat at 80.4% at 90% specificity, and the updated version detected 18.2% of advanced precancerous lesions, so most remain undetected (RTTNews, 12 October 2026). The shares fell 11% on 13 October 2026.
- Abbott sells a competing stool test. Abbott's 30 September 2026 release places SimpleScreen CRC alongside Cologuard Plus (BioSpace). Freenome earns tiered royalties on the blood test, while Abbott keeps full economics on Cologuard Plus.
- Cash burn is large. Freenome reported $102.0 million in cash and short-term securities at 30 June 2026 and a first-half 2026 operating cash burn of $97.1 million. Second-quarter revenue was $2.3 million against a $69.0 million net loss.
Price setup
The shares closed at $13.04 on 27 October 2026, per adjusted daily closes. That is above the $12.19 close of 14 October 2026 and below the $15.78 close of 9 October 2026, the last close before the updated colorectal data. The $17.11 52-week high is 23.8% above the last close. The $11.77 level is the shares' opening price on 21 July 2026, the first day after the merger, so it is the lowest reference point in a price history that is only three months old.
Crowding evidence points in two directions. Retail attention is visible in the 11% single-day moves on 13 October 2026 and around 20 October 2026. A prospectus dated 18 August 2026 registered up to 75,188,742 shares for resale by existing securityholders, and no filing reviewed shows how many have sold. The shares trade at 32.3 on the RSI, not stretched above a rising average.
Catalysts, next 30 days
- 15 November 2026 — Carelon guideline takes effect. The revised liquid-biopsy guideline opens restricted commercial-payer coverage for SimpleScreen CRC, subject to each plan's eligibility criteria.
- ~18 November 2026, est. Third-quarter 2026 report. Freenome has not confirmed the date in sources reviewed. The quarter includes only one day of colorectal sales, so it tests cash, spending and lung-launch commentary more than royalties.
- Undated — Lung test payer coverage or FDA submission timing. TIKR reported that Freenome is working toward an FDA submission and gave no timing.
What would change the view
The case breaks on a pause or restriction of SimpleScreen CRC availability by Abbott or Freenome, or on a daily close below $11.77. A new primary share offering or at-the-market program filed before royalties are material would also weaken it, since the first-half cash burn already exceeded $97 million.
Evidence that would strengthen it: Abbott commentary quantifying SimpleScreen CRC test volume, a named payer covering SimpleScreen Lung, or a disclosed FDA pathway for the updated colorectal version. The sample of reported post-launch data is zero quarters, so no trend can be drawn yet.
What it trades with
Freenome trades with early-cancer-detection and diagnostics names, and with Abbott's disclosures on its colorectal screening portfolio. Blood-based colorectal competitors and guideline or payer decisions on liquid biopsy move the group together. Newly listed, small-capitalization shares with a three-month price history also react to the resale-registered supply and to broad risk appetite in small-cap healthcare.
Notes
- Freenome listed through a merger with a blank-check company on 21 July 2026, so its public price history is short.
- Freenome earns tiered royalties, so test volume does not translate one-for-one into Freenome revenue.
- SimpleScreen Lung is a laboratory-developed test with FDA Breakthrough Device Designation (12 August 2026); it has not been FDA authorized for screening.
- Abbott also sells Cologuard Plus, a stool-based colorectal screening test that competes with SimpleScreen CRC.
