How to read this

The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on 19 October 2026; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.

Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.

Kill line

A daily close below $8.50, under the $8.55 52-week low reported by Investing.com, erasing the rebound since the 9 October 2026 GMV update; or a third-quarter report that cuts full-year operating profit guidance below the high-single-digit decline.

The thesis

MINISO's mainland China sales are speeding up again, but management still expects full-year profit to fall. The third-quarter report, which EarningsWhispers expects around 23 November 2026, decides it. It will show whether revenue follows the faster sales and whether the profit guidance holds.

On 9 October 2026 the company said mainland China gross merchandise value (GMV, total sales through all its stores) rose 25%–30% year on year in the quarter to 30 September. That beat the first-half pace. The same update showed the slowdown risk. During the 1 October to 7 October 2026 National Day holiday, China GMV grew 20%–25% but same-store sales grew only at a low-single-digit rate.

The shares closed at $10.25 on 19 October 2026, 53.4% below their 52-week high of $21.98 and 18.0% lower over three months on adjusted daily closes. Most of that drop followed the 28 August 2026 half-year report. Management then guided full-year adjusted operating profit, excluding currency effects, down by a high-single-digit percentage, with the margin 3 to 4 percentage points lower. The narrative is maturing: the story is well known, two brokers cut to neutral on 31 August 2026, and the only news since the 9 October 2026 update is store openings. It fails if the report shows margins falling faster than guided.

Bullish and bearish views on MINISO Group Holding Limited

The bull case on MINISO Group Holding Limited (MNSO), in brief: China sales growth is speeding up. The bear case: Management expects profit to fall.

Bull case

  • China sales growth is speeding up. Mainland China GMV grew 25%–30% year on year in the third quarter on high-single-digit same-store sales growth, the company's 9 October 2026 business update said. That compares with mid-single-digit same-store growth in the first half, according to the 28 August 2026 earnings call.
  • US business turned up in September. MINISO USA GMV rose about 20% in the third quarter and more than 30% in September 2026, with positive same-store sales that month, the 9 October 2026 update said.
  • The company's own characters now sell at scale. The in-house YOYO character line passed RMB 1 billion of GMV in the first nine months of 2026 and sells in 53 countries and regions, according to the same update.
  • Larger store formats are going abroad. MINISO opened its first overseas Super MINISO store in Mississauga, Canada, on 13 October 2026, FashionNetwork reported. Retail Technology Innovation Hub reported on 18 October 2026 that a 19,000 sq ft MINISO LAND flagship is planned for London's Oxford Street.
  • Steady buybacks and an insider purchase. The company bought back 26,240 American depositary shares (ADS) on 8 October 2026, bringing purchases under its 18 June 2026 mandate to about 31.26 million ordinary shares, according to a 6-K filed 14 October 2026. Benzinga reported on 29 September 2026 that chief financial officer Jingjing Zhang bought about HK$2.7 million of shares on the open market.
  • Cash funds the returns to shareholders. Cash reserves stood at RMB 7.39 billion at end-June 2026, and first-half dividends and buybacks totalled RMB 1.31 billion, according to the 28 August 2026 call.

Bear case

  • Management expects profit to fall. On 28 August 2026 management guided full-year adjusted operating profit, excluding currency effects, down by a high-single-digit percentage. First-half reported adjusted operating profit fell 6% to RMB 1.49 billion on revenue up 22.4% to RMB 11.5 billion.
  • Revenue is set to slow in the second half. Management guided second-half group revenue growth to high single digits and overseas revenue to low-single-digit growth, according to the 28 August 2026 call.
  • Holiday trading slowed in October. Same-store sales grew only at a low-single-digit rate over the 2026 National Day holiday, the 9 October 2026 update said, against high single digits for the third quarter as a whole.
  • Overseas store count is shrinking. Management expects 50 to 70 net overseas store closures in the second half of 2026, and overseas same-store sales fell by a low-single-digit rate in the first half, according to the 28 August 2026 call. The 9 October 2026 update described overseas results only as largely in line with guidance.
  • Analysts stepped back after the profit warning. Citigroup cut the shares from Buy to Neutral with an $11.30 target and HSBC moved to Hold with a $10.80 target, both on 31 August 2026, according to PriceTargets.com. The 19 October 2026 close sits a little below both targets.

Price setup

The $10.25 close on 19 October 2026 is up from $10.19 on 16 October 2026 and well off the $8.55 52-week low that Investing.com reports. The 14-day relative strength index (RSI, a 0–100 momentum gauge) stood at 68.9 on 19 October 2026, close to the 70 level usually read as stretched after a short rebound. On the other side, the shares remain 53.4% below the $21.98 52-week high and down 18.0% over three months.

Crowding is light. No heavy retail attention shows in news flow, which since 9 October 2026 has been limited to a 14 October 2026 Benzinga pre-market movers list and store-opening coverage. Insider activity this autumn has been a purchase, and the company has been retiring shares. The 8 October 2026 buyback put the company under a Hong Kong moratorium on issuing new shares until 7 November 2026, according to the 14 October 2026 6-K. The nearest crowding risk is the earnings date: the third-quarter report lands about five weeks out, and the shares tend to reprice sharply on profit guidance, as the drop after 28 August 2026 showed.

Catalysts, next 30 days

  • 7 November 2026 — The moratorium on new share issuance tied to the 8 October 2026 buyback ends, per the 14 October 2026 6-K. After it, the company is again free to issue shares.
  • 11 November 2026 — China's Singles' Day shopping festival. It is the first broad read on fourth-quarter China demand after National Day same-store growth slowed to low single digits.
  • ~23 November 2026, est. (EarningsWhispers) — Third-quarter 2026 results. This falls just outside 30 days but decides the case. It shows whether revenue follows 25%–30% China GMV growth and whether the full-year profit guide holds or is cut. EarningsWhispers lists a consensus estimate of $0.37 per ADS.

Elapsed catalysts

  • ~early-to-mid November 2026, est. — Announcement of the third-quarter results date. MINISO announced its June-quarter date on 14 August 2026, two weeks ahead. (passed 67d ago)

What would change the view

The case breaks if the third-quarter report cuts full-year adjusted operating profit guidance, excluding currency effects, below a high-single-digit decline. It also breaks if the quarter's adjusted operating margin falls more than 4 percentage points year on year. Either would show that faster sales are not reaching profit.

A second break would be China same-store sales turning negative in a fourth-quarter update, extending the National Day slowdown. US GMV growth falling back below 20%, or net overseas closures above the guided 50 to 70, would weaken the overseas leg of the story.

On price, a daily close below $8.50 would put the shares under the $8.55 52-week low and erase the whole rebound since the 9 October 2026 update. A close back above the Citigroup ($11.30) target on fresh evidence, such as a firmer profit guide, would strengthen the case.

What it trades with

MNSO trades as a China consumer name listed in New York. It moves with Chinese consumer data, holiday spending reads and US–China tariff news more than with US retail. In this coverage it sits in the Emerging markets group with XP and INTR, Brazilian financials whose drivers (Brazilian rates and credit) share little with MINISO's business. That group's interest cooled from accelerating on 11 October 2026 to maturing on 18 October 2026 and 19 October 2026. The case here rests on company-specific results, so a cooler group mainly means fewer outside buyers into the report. A broad sell-off in China-listed consumer shares around Singles' Day would be the main shared risk.

Notes

  • MINISO's American depositary shares trade on the NYSE; each ADS represents four ordinary shares, which also trade in Hong Kong under code 9896.
  • MINISO reports in renminbi and publishes adjusted operating profit both with and without foreign-exchange effects; the two can differ materially.
  • Monthly GMV and holiday sales updates from MINISO are preliminary and unaudited, and can differ from the revenue reported in quarterly results.
