How to read this
The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on the last session; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.
Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.
Kill line
A daily close below $9.50, under the recent closing range near $9.86–$10.19. Third-quarter revenue at or below $86 million, a net loss, or a cut to the $347–357 million full-year revenue range would also break the case.
Not a pickResearch coverage at low conviction. A medium-or-higher call would open a pick on the scoreboard.

How picks are graded →The thesis
MNTN, Inc.'s connected-TV advertising business has to show that its profit is repeatable: the third-quarter report, estimated for about 3 November 2026, needs revenue above the $86 million floor of company guidance and net income that stays positive. The shares closed at $9.86 on 22 October 2026, 46.6% below the 52-week high of $18.47, and the price has not confirmed a recovery.
The narrative is maturing: the story is well known and has drawn little new attention since the 4 August 2026 report, when several analysts lowered their targets. The only company item since the 9 October 2026 close is a 20 October 2026 Inc. Power Partner award, and no filings have appeared. The quarterly report, about twelve days away, is the first event that can move the operating case.
Bullish and bearish views on MNTN, Inc.
The bull case on MNTN, Inc. (MNTN), in brief: Reported profit has appeared. The bear case: Per-share profit missed.
Bull case
- Reported profit has appeared. MNTN reported revenue of $82.5 million, up 21% year over year, and net income of $6.7 million for the quarter ended 30 June 2026. Revenue slightly exceeded the $82.477 million analyst estimate cited by Benzinga on 4 August 2026.
- Guidance was affirmed. On 4 August 2026 MNTN guided third-quarter revenue to $86–89 million, against a $87.543 million analyst estimate cited by Benzinga. It kept full-year revenue guidance at $347–357 million, against a $351.733 million estimate, and guided third-quarter adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) to $22–25 million.
- Advertiser count is rising. MNTN reported 4,225 trailing-twelve-month active Performance TV customers at 30 June 2026, up 40% year over year.
- The balance sheet is liquid. MNTN reported $237.3 million of cash and equivalents and no borrowings at 30 June 2026. Its board authorized up to $100 million of Class A share repurchases on 3 August 2026.
- Analyst targets sit well above the price. On 13 August 2026 Citigroup kept a Buy rating with a $16 target and Tigress Financial kept a Strong Buy with a $22 target. Evercore ISI kept Outperform with a $22 target on 5 August 2026.
Bear case
- Per-share profit missed. Benzinga reported second-quarter earnings of $0.09 a share on 4 August 2026, against a $0.20 analyst estimate. Revenue beat by a small margin, so the miss sits below the revenue line.
- Targets were cut after the report. Citigroup, Tigress Financial and Evercore ISI each lowered their price targets between 5 August 2026 and 13 August 2026. Each kept a positive rating.
- The shares sit 46.6% under the $18.47 52-week high.
- Patent litigation continues. Alpha Modus Holdings said on 25 August 2026 that a Texas federal court denied MNTN's motion to dismiss its patent infringement suit. No damages or trial date appear in company news since then.
Price setup
The adjusted close was $9.86 on 22 October 2026, with a three-month price change of 5.8%. The close is 3.2% lower than the $10.19 close of 9 October 2026 and 16.7% lower than the $11.83 close of 11 September 2026. The 14-day relative strength index (a 0–100 momentum gauge) was 49.7 on 22 October 2026, up from 35.0 on 9 October 2026, so selling pressure has eased even as the price edged lower.
Crowding evidence is thin. Company news since 4 August 2026 shows no insider sales and no share issuance. The estimated earnings date, about twelve days out, adds event risk, and the company had not confirmed it in sources reviewed on 23 October 2026.

Elapsed catalysts
- ~3 November 2026, est.: third-quarter 2026 results. The release tests revenue against the $86–89 million guidance, whether net income stays positive after $6.7 million in the second quarter, and whether the $347–357 million full-year range holds. (passed 3d ago)
What would change the view
The case breaks if third-quarter revenue lands at or below $86 million, if MNTN reports a net loss, or if it cuts the $347–357 million full-year revenue range. A daily close below $9.50 would also end it. That level sits under the 22 October 2026 close of $9.86 and under the $10.19 close of 9 October 2026.
Revenue near the top of the $86–89 million range with positive net income would strengthen the case. Citigroup's $16 and Tigress Financial's $22 targets would then look closer to the operating results than they do now.
What it trades with
MNTN sells advertising on connected television, so its revenue follows advertiser budgets and the broader digital-ad market. No current theme cluster carries the name, and its price path since August has followed its own earnings and analyst-target changes. The sample of post-report closes is too small to draw a conclusion about its sensitivity to ad-market peers.
Notes
- MNTN's 4 August 2026 full-year growth comparison excludes the Maximum Effort divestiture, while its reported revenue comparison includes it.
- MNTN's filings distinguish Class A common stock from other share classes; per-share comparisons depend on dilution.
- The company had not confirmed a third-quarter results date in sources reviewed as of 23 October 2026; the ~3 November 2026 date is an aggregator estimate.
