Against its published line

Above its line on the last close.

How to read this

The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on 12 October 2026; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.

Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.

How a pick is graded

Kill line

A weekly close below $80, a round-number level under the 9 October 2026 close of $85.33 and that session's $83.97 low. A second cut to fiscal 2026 sales or adjusted EPS guidance at the December report would also break the case.

Not a pickResearch coverage at low conviction. A medium-or-higher call would open a pick on the scoreboard.

The thesis

Ollie's Bargain Outlet's case still rests on new stores carrying revenue while existing stores lose sales, and the price test of that case has already failed once. The shares closed the week of 9 October 2026 at $85.33, below the $86.78 reference close of 29 September 2026 that anchored the prior read. The third-quarter report, expected in early December, settles whether comparable sales recover.

The business facts have not changed since the 2 September 2026 report. Management raised fiscal 2026 adjusted earnings per share (EPS) guidance and cut the sales outlook in the same release. The shares now have to rebuild the case from a lower price without a dated company event in the next 30 days.

The narrative is maturing: analyst target revisions clustered around 3 September 2026, and the only company news since is the 700th store opening on 24 September 2026, per Chain Store Age. The consumer-discretionary rotation group these shares trade with has been rated maturing for four straight weekly readings through 11 October 2026. A cooling group gives a single-name recovery case less help.

Bullish and bearish views on Ollie's Bargain Outlet Holdings, Inc.

The bull case on Ollie's Bargain Outlet Holdings, Inc. (OLLI), in brief: New stores still add revenue. The bear case: Existing-store sales are shrinking.

Bull case

  • New stores still add revenue. Ollie's opened 15 stores in the quarter ended 1 August 2026 and reached 686 locations, up 11.9% year over year, while revenue rose 9.1%, per the company's 2 September 2026 release. Chain Store Age reported the 700th store opened in Maplewood, Minnesota on 24 September 2026, with stores in 39 states.
  • Earnings guidance moved up. On 2 September 2026 management raised fiscal 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to $4.57–$4.65 from $4.45–$4.55, per the company release. The December report tests whether that range holds.
  • Momentum has cooled without collapsing. The 14-day relative strength index (RSI) eased to 66.9 on 9 October 2026 from 80.0 on 29 September 2026 in adjusted daily closes. The shares still show a 29.4% gain over three months.

Bear case

  • Existing-store sales are shrinking. Comparable sales fell 1.8% in the quarter ended 1 August 2026 as average basket size declined, per the 2 September 2026 release. Management cut annual sales guidance to $2.928–$2.941 billion from $2.980–$3.000 billion the same day.
  • Margin gain leaned on tariff refunds. Gross margin expanded 360 basis points in that quarter, and tariff refunds contributed 380 basis points of it, per the company release. Excluding refunds, the underlying margin did not expand.
  • The prior price test failed. The 9 October 2026 weekly close of $85.33 sits below the 29 September 2026 reference close of $86.78. The rally since the September report has stalled 35.8% below the 52-week high of $132.85.

Price setup

The last close was $85.33 on 9 October 2026 in split- and dividend-adjusted daily closes. The 52-week high is $132.85, leaving the shares 35.8% below it. The three-month change is a gain of 29.4%, and the 14-day RSI reads 66.9.

The 9 October 2026 session traded between $83.97 and $86.53, per Yahoo Finance's quote page, and the close was down $1.38, or 1.59%, on the day. That close is the first weekly close under the $86.78 level of 29 September 2026. Moving-average levels are not part of this read.

That is a moderate short position. Crowding signs beyond it are limited: no insider selling or share issuance appears in recent SEC filings, and no earnings date falls inside the next 30 days.

Catalysts, next 30 days

  • 11 October to 10 November 2026: no company-dated earnings release, investor day or filing deadline is scheduled. The shares trade on sector flows and on the wider consumer read in this window.
  • ~8 December 2026, est.: third-quarter fiscal 2026 report. The prior-year third-quarter report came on 9 December 2025. This event decides the case: comparable sales against the second-quarter decline of 1.8%, and whether the $2.928–$2.941 billion sales range and the $4.57–$4.65 adjusted EPS range survive.

What would change the view

The case breaks on a second cut to fiscal 2026 sales or adjusted EPS guidance at the December report, or on comparable sales falling more than the 1.8% decline of the second quarter. Either result would show new stores no longer offset weaker spending at existing ones.

On price, a weekly close below $80 would put the shares under a round-number level that sits beneath both the 9 October 2026 close of $85.33 and that day's $83.97 low. That would leave the September recovery without support from the price.

The read would strengthen if third-quarter comparable sales turn positive and gross margin expands without tariff-refund help. Evidence of that kind would come only from the December report.

What it trades with

Ollie's trades with the consumer-discretionary rotation group, including VRA, SG, FOSL, LUXE, GME, ONON, MAT, XPOF, FNKO and PVH. That group has been rated maturing in weekly readings since 20 September 2026. As a closeout retailer, Ollie's also tracks other off-price and value chains on reads of lower-income consumer spending and tariff costs. A broad rally in discretionary retail would lift the shares without confirming the store-level recovery the case requires.

Notes

  • Ollie's fiscal year ends on the Saturday nearest 31 January, so fiscal 2026 results cover most of calendar 2026 and the third quarter reports in December.
  • Ollie's sells closeout and excess inventory, so its gross margin depends on buying opportunities and freight and tariff costs as well as sales volume.
