Kill line

A daily close below $1.00, which would erase most of the post-HUPO gain and put the shares back under Nasdaq's $1 minimum bid. Separately, any delay of the Proteus launch beyond Q2 2027.

Not a pickResearch coverage at low conviction. A medium-or-higher call would open a pick on the scoreboard.

The thesis

Quantum-Si's shares still price in more than the business has shown: the Proteus protein sequencer is guided to launch in the second quarter of 2027, and 2026 revenue is guided to about $1.0M. The third-quarter report on 5 November 2026 settles whether the launch date, the cash runway and the share count hold.

The shares closed at $1.46 on 30 October 2026, adjusted daily closes, up from $1.09 on 19 October 2026. The 14-day relative strength index was 53.4, a neutral reading. Nothing in company filings or releases since 16 October 2026 explains the rebound, and the engineering case has not changed since the 19-amino-acid result of 8 October 2026.

The narrative is maturing: the World HUPO (Human Proteome Organization) data of 29 September 2026 and the 19-amino-acid milestone are well known, and the price has swung between $1.09 and $1.55 in a month with no new company data. Revenue stays near zero until launch, so the schedule and the cash decide the case.

Bullish and bearish views on Quantum-Si Incorporated

The bull case on Quantum-Si Incorporated (QSI), in brief: Chemistry milestones are arriving early. The bear case: The launch has already slipped once.

Bull case

  • Chemistry milestones are arriving early. Quantum-Si reported 18 amino acids on 15 September 2026 and 19 on 8 October 2026. Management said all 20 are "well within reach by year-end 2026".
  • Large gain over the current instrument. The 29 September 2026 HUPO release reported a median of 30 times more alignments than Platinum Pro from a single chamber. The false discovery rate was 1.36%, against 6.58% for Platinum Pro.
  • Listing risk is cleared for now. On 15 October 2026 Quantum-Si said Nasdaq had confirmed it regained compliance with the $1.00 minimum bid price, closing a deficiency noticed on 23 July 2026.
  • Cash reaches past the launch. Cash and marketable securities were $169.9M on 30 June 2026. Management expects that to fund operations into the fourth quarter of 2028 (Form 8-K, 13 August 2026).
  • Analyst support held after the data. HC Wainwright reiterated a Buy rating and a $4 price target on 29 September 2026, Benzinga reported.

Bear case

  • The launch has already slipped once. On 13 August 2026 Quantum-Si moved the Proteus launch to Q2 2027 to add an integrated instrument design cycle. The same release announced a 20% workforce reduction.
  • 19 amino acids is a lab result. The 8 October 2026 release says the company is still working to put the capability into a developmental sequencing kit, with no date. The HUPO figures came from the older 18-amino-acid kit.
  • The headline data are partly projected. The 29 September 2026 release says the instrument, consumables and software are not fully optimized. The full-run figure of about 60 times more alignments is projected from single-chamber results.
  • Losses dwarf sales. Second-quarter 2026 revenue was $344 thousand, down from $591 thousand a year earlier. The net loss was $23.5M (Form 8-K, 13 August 2026).
  • A share-sale program is in place. Quantum-Si has a $100M at-the-market stock program and a $300M shelf registration filed in 2025. Sales during the October price swings would first appear in the third-quarter 10-Q.

Price setup

The shares closed at $1.46 on 30 October 2026. That is 32.1% below the 52-week high of $2.15 and 90.7% above the close three months earlier, on adjusted daily closes. The highest close of the October rally was $1.55 on 2 October 2026; the lowest close since was $1.09 on 19 October 2026.

The $1.00 level is the Nasdaq minimum bid price. A new deficiency notice would follow 30 consecutive business days of closing bids below it. The 5 November 2026 report falls five sessions after the latest close, so the next large price move is likely to come from the report.

Crowding evidence: Benzinga flagged Quantum-Si on 5 October 2026 among health care stocks with relative strength readings above 80, an overbought level. The reading has since cooled to 53.4. The at-the-market program means share issuance into strength is possible and would be visible only in the quarterly filing.

Catalysts, next 30 days

  • ~5 November to 14 November 2026 (est.): Form 10-Q, which discloses the share count and any stock sold under the at-the-market program.
  • 31 December 2026: Company target for detecting all 20 amino acids, just outside the 30-day window but the milestone the launch kit depends on.

Elapsed catalysts

  • Early November 2026 (est.): Proteus roadshow stops in Munich and Berlin, per a company release of 9 September 2026. Customer feedback is the only commercial signal before launch. (passed 58d ago)
  • 5 November 2026: Third-quarter 2026 results and business update. Shows the launch timing, quarterly cash burn against the Q4 2028 runway, and any at-the-market sales. (passed 1d ago)

What would change the view

The case breaks if the 5 November 2026 report pushes the Proteus launch beyond the second quarter of 2027, or if it shows large at-the-market sales that raise the share count before any launch revenue. A missed or deferred year-end target for all 20 amino acids would point the same way.

A daily close below $1.00 would put the shares back under Nasdaq's minimum bid and erase most of the post-HUPO gain. A developmental-kit update showing 19 or 20 amino acids on an integrated instrument, with the launch date intact and no meaningful dilution, would strengthen the case.

What it trades with

Quantum-Si trades on its own news flow rather than with an index or sector. The 24% jump on 29 September 2026 followed the HUPO data release, and the October reversal followed no company announcement. Peers in protein analysis and life-science tools, and small-cap healthcare names with high retail attention, are the closest comparison. The sample of moves is too small to measure a stable relationship.

Notes

  • The Proteus performance data released 29 September 2026 came from an 18-amino-acid developmental kit. The commercial launch kit is expected to cover all 20 amino acids.
  • Quantum-Si has two share classes: 198.9M Class A and 19.9M Class B shares were outstanding at 30 June 2026. The Class B shares carry enhanced voting rights.
  • FY2026 revenue guidance is about $1.0M while customers move from Platinum Pro to Proteus, so reported sales say little about the platform until launch.
  • Quantum-Si has a $100M at-the-market stock program and a $300M shelf registration on file from 2025. Share sales under it can occur without a separate announcement.
  • Quantum-Si regained compliance with Nasdaq's $1 minimum bid on 15 October 2026. A new deficiency would follow 30 consecutive business days of closing bids below $1.00.
