Against its published line

Above its line on the last close.

How to read this

The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on the last session; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.

Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.

How a pick is graded

Kill line

A daily close below $2.85, under the early-September trading range where insiders sold at $2.95 and $3.21. A second cut to full-year 2026 guidance or a disclosed delay of the first AMD installation past 31 December 2026 separately breaks the case.

Not a pickResearch coverage at low conviction. A medium-or-higher call would open a pick on the scoreboard.

The thesis

Rackspace Technology's pivot to artificial-intelligence (AI) infrastructure still has no operating proof, and the shares closed at $2.87 on 27 October 2026, within two cents of the $2.85 invalidation level in the previous note. The third-quarter report, due after the market closes on 9 November 2026, decides whether the business holds its cut full-year guidance. The first AMD GPU (graphics processing unit) installation, targeted for 31 December 2026, decides whether the AI case has substance.

The rating stays low. Nothing in company news since the 15 October 2026 note changes the operating picture: the only new item is the 20 October 2026 announcement of the report date, in which the company described itself as a global enterprise AI infrastructure and solutions provider.

The narrative is maturing toward exhaustion: the NVIDIA Cloud Partner announcement of 10 September 2026 is still the last fresh product news, and the shares have fallen 31.8% over three months and sit 61.9% below the $7.53 52-week high, per adjusted daily closes. The next report is the first chance for new facts to replace the price drift.

Bullish and bearish views on Rackspace Technology, Inc.

The bull case on Rackspace Technology, Inc. (RXT), in brief: Private cloud is still growing. The bear case: Total revenue is flat.

Bull case

  • Private cloud is still growing. Second-quarter private-cloud revenue was $263 million, up 5.5% year over year, per the company's August 2026 results release. The AI offering sits in this segment.
  • Guidance was already reset lower. Barchart reported that in July 2026 the company cut full-year revenue guidance by about $150 million to $2.45–$2.55 billion and adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) to $285–$295 million. A lower bar is easier to clear in the third quarter.
  • Second quarter beat estimates. MarketBeat reported second-quarter revenue of $670.1 million against a $646 million consensus, and a loss of $0.08 per share against an expected $0.09 loss.
  • The AMD installation has a date. The 10-Q for the quarter ended 30 June 2026 describes a first AMD GPU deployment of nearly 2 megawatts targeted for completion by the end of 2026, with about $75 million of capital spending.
  • The shares are deeply oversold. The 14-day relative strength index (RSI), a 0–100 momentum gauge, read 28.9 on 27 October 2026, below the 30 level usually read as oversold. A report that merely holds guidance meets very low expectations.

Bear case

  • Total revenue is flat. Second-quarter revenue rose 0.6% year over year, and public-cloud revenue fell 2.3% to $407 million, per the August 2026 release.
  • Losses, cash burn and heavy debt. The same release reported a $68 million net loss and $32 million of operating cash outflow, with cash of $110.6 million. The 10-Q lists $2,311.3 million of debt principal at 30 June 2026.
  • Sales at a falling price raise the number of shares needed to raise a given sum.
  • Insiders sold in early September. MarketBeat, citing SEC Form 4 filings, reported the CFO sold 51,373 shares at $2.95 on 2 September 2026 and the CEO sold 498,728 shares at $3.21 on 4 September 2026, both under pre-arranged plans for tax withholding. The shares now trade below both prices.
  • Analysts and lawyers lean negative. MarketBeat listed a "Reduce" consensus with a $4.00 average target on 12 October 2026. Several law firms have pursued a securities class action tied to the July guidance cut.

Price setup

The shares closed at $2.87 on 27 October 2026, down from $3.15 on 14 October 2026, the close that broke the $3.45 level in the earlier note. The decline has continued without a rebound of note. The 52-week high is $7.53, and the shares are 61.9% below it.

The $2.85 level in the previous note sits just under the last close. It marks the early-September trading range, where the insider sales at $2.95 and $3.21 took place.

Crowding evidence is limited to the earnings date. The report falls inside the next 30 days, and the shares enter it with negative analyst consensus, an open equity sales program and no large insider buying on record.

Catalysts, next 30 days

  • 9 November 2026: Third-quarter 2026 results, released after the market closes, per the company's 20 October 2026 announcement. It shows whether the July guidance holds, whether private-cloud growth continues, and how much stock was sold under the Goldman Sachs program.
  • 10 November 2026: Management conference call at 8:30 a.m. Eastern. It is the first chance to hear named AI customers, bookings or a confirmed AMD installation schedule.
  • 31 December 2026 (outside the window): Management's target for the first AMD GPU installation. The case turns on it, because completion would give the AI pivot its first operating proof.

What would change the view

The case breaks if the third-quarter report cuts full-year 2026 revenue or adjusted EBITDA guidance a second time, or if the company discloses that the first AMD installation will slip past 31 December 2026. A daily close below $2.85 would also end it, because that is below the early-September range where insiders sold.

The case improves if the report holds both guidance ranges, shows private-cloud growth continuing, and names paying customers or quantified bookings for the NVIDIA-Palantir sovereign offering. A report that does so would have to also show limited share issuance under the Goldman Sachs program, or dilution would offset the operating progress.

What it trades with

Rackspace trades on its own balance sheet and guidance more than on the AI-infrastructure group. Its debt is about twenty times its cash balance, so small changes in operating results move the equity value sharply. The September NVIDIA and Palantir partnership headlines lifted the shares briefly and did not hold, which suggests partner news has limited pull without customer revenue behind it.

Notes

  • Rackspace has a $250 million equity distribution agreement with Goldman Sachs, entered 9 July 2026, so new stock can be sold into the market at any time.
  • Debt principal of $2,311.3 million at 30 June 2026 is many times the company's $110.6 million cash balance, so equity value is highly sensitive to operating results.
  • A securities class action tied to the July 2026 guidance cut and share-price drop has been pursued by several law firms.
