Nothing is through its line on this close.
How to read this
The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the pick wrong. The dot is where the name closed on 10 September 2026; a dot LEFT of the mark has closed through its line.
Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row stops competing and reads well clear, with a hollow dot to say the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.
Current thesis
The 2026-09-03 Cybercab launch landed after the bell and delivered a website update rather than a disclosure: rides live in limited Austin areas via the Robotaxi app, no ride price, no operating fleet count, no livestream, guests under NDA. The $357.01→$376.37 advance priced anticipation, leaving a saturated narrative whose next hard number is the ~2026-10-02 Q3 delivery release.
Kill line
A daily close below $357 gives back the entire 2026-09-03 event-day advance and puts price under the $356.09/$357.01 pre-event shelf; secondary condition is the ~2026-10-02 Q3 delivery release passing with no stated Cybercab operating fleet count and deliveries below Q2's 480,126.

Current Thesis
The leg an investor is buying has not changed since the last update: autonomy converting from a demonstration programme into a billed revenue line, with the two-seat Cybercab — no steering wheel, no pedals, AI4 compute — as the vehicle that does it. What changed is that the event came and went, and it resolved less than the pre-event coverage implied it would.
Tesla's Austin launch was scheduled for 4:45 p.m. CDT on 2026-09-03, after the closing bell. It was not livestreamed, no live footage was posted that evening, no public remarks from Musk or other executives were reported, and invited guests signed non-disclosure agreements with posting embargoes (AutoConnectedCar, 2026-09-03/04). The concrete announcement arrived as a website update: Cybercab rides are hailable in limited areas of Austin through the existing Robotaxi app. Tesla did not specify Cybercab ride pricing and did not clarify how broadly app users can reach the vehicles.
So the disclosure gap flagged going into the event was not closed. There is still no company-published count of Cybercabs in unsupervised public service and no named date for a general paid rollout. The only vehicle numbers remain third-party: Texas DMV records reported 2026-09-01 show 45 Cybercabs titled to Tesla Robotaxi, LLC alongside 269 Model Ys — 314 authorised vehicles, up from seven Cybercab registrations earlier in August; a separate account put Tesla's statewide authorised AV fleet above 400 at event time. Both are registration counts. Neither says how many cars drive without a human in them.
The move happened before any of that was public. The close went $357.01 (09-02) → $376.37 (09-03); Yahoo Finance headlined a 5.5% jump and TSLA as the best Magnificent Seven performer that session, with a Tesla-tied leveraged ETF up 11% on the day (Benzinga, 2026-09-03). RSI(14) moved 57.6 → 63.2 across those sessions. The narrative is saturated: mainstream coverage ran continuously from the 2026-08-24 date confirmation through the 2026-09-03 event, the event itself produced a website edit behind an NDA, and the marginal buyer now has to underwrite a fleet number that the company does not publish.
Bullish and bearish views on Tesla, Inc.
The model's bull view on Tesla, Inc. (TSLA), in brief: Cybercab is in commercial service (2026-09-03): Tesla's robotaxi site update confirms Cybercab rides available in limited Austin areas through the Robotaxi app — the first revenue-adjacent deployment of the purpose-built vehicle, not a closed-course demo. The bear view: The event resolved the wrong things. No livestream, no executive remarks, guests under NDA, no Cybercab ride price, no operating fleet count, no paid-rollout date (AutoConnectedCar, 2026-09-03/04). Every metric that would let an outside model size the business is still absent.… Both cases follow in full.
Bull Case
- Cybercab is in commercial service (2026-09-03): Tesla's robotaxi site update confirms Cybercab rides available in limited Austin areas through the Robotaxi app — the first revenue-adjacent deployment of the purpose-built vehicle, not a closed-course demo.
- The registered fleet is compounding fast (2026-09-01): 45 Cybercabs in Texas state records against seven earlier in August, inside a 314-vehicle authorised fleet.
- The operating record is large and clean (as of 2026-09-01): more than 380,000 unsupervised miles in Austin without a notable incident, per company disclosures compiled by Barchart. That figure does not depend on fleet size.
- Regulatory headroom keeps landing ahead of vehicles: the Nevada DMV authorised Tesla Robotaxi LLC for up to 5,000 autonomous vehicles in Clark County on 2026-08-20, replacing a 10-vehicle interim cap; Nevada Transportation Authority commercial certificates cover Tesla, Waymo and Uber for up to 8,000 driverless vehicles over 12 months (reported week of 2026-08-24).
- Europe remains a second geography on someone else's calendar: Tesla published on 2026-09-01 that FSD recorded 4.1x fewer crashes than manual driving in Europe, timed to a regulatory vote on wider approval.
- China volume is cumulatively large: Jan–Aug wholesale of 647,694 units, +25.63% year over year (CPCA via CNEVPost, 2026-09-02), which funds the autonomy spend even as the monthly rate fades.
- Sell-side marks sit above the tape: StoneX reiterated Buy with a $475 target on 2026-09-03; the stockanalysis.com consensus across 25 analysts was $422.79 on 2026-08-21.
Bear Case
- The event resolved the wrong things. No livestream, no executive remarks, guests under NDA, no Cybercab ride price, no operating fleet count, no paid-rollout date (AutoConnectedCar, 2026-09-03/04). Every metric that would let an outside model size the business is still absent.
- Morgan Stanley named the missing input and stayed Equal-weight. Reiterating a $400 target on 2026-09-03, Andrew Percoco wrote that "continued growth in the unsupervised fleet (Cybercab or Model Y) is key for the stock to outperform through year-end," and warned the stock could "sell off through the event" on a limited rollout.
- China growth collapsed in one month. August wholesale 86,166 units, +3.57% YoY against +37.85% in July and -7.92% from July's 93,579 (CPCA via CNEVPost, 2026-09-02) — a 34-point deceleration in the growth rate.
- Europe is contracting where it prints. Portugal's August Tesla registrations fell 36.5% YoY (2026-09-01), even with January–August up 41.4%.
- Earnings power keeps being marked down. Q2 2026 revenue was $28.236B, +26% YoY on 480,126 deliveries, with adjusted EPS of $0.33 against $0.51 consensus; consensus Q3 EPS is $0.26, a 29.7% YoY decline (Barchart survey, 2026-09-01). Jefferies cut to a $350 target on 2026-08-07 and reduced FY26 EBIT 37% to $3.9B.
- A vocal bull-adjacent voice is arguing both sides of the multiple. Gary Black said on 2026-09-02 that a valuation 5.8x peers is a reason "to not own it" while not a reason to short it, and separately that "unsupervised autonomy is becoming table stakes."
- Regulatory items keep accumulating: four NHTSA investigations into FSD/Autopilot remain open, including Engineering Analysis EA26002; US recall 26V507 letters mail 2026-09-15; the China door-release recall covering 2,975,910 vehicles takes effect 2026-09-25.
Setup & Price Structure
The reference close is $376.37 on 2026-09-03, -23.2% from the 52-week high of $489.88, with a three-month price change of -3.7% — the name sits near the top of a range that is net lower over the quarter. RSI(14) is 63.2.
The event-day advance built a clean shelf underneath it. Closes ran $367.95 (08-31), $356.09 (09-01), $357.01 (09-02) before the 09-03 gap higher. That $356–357 band is the entire pre-event floor; a daily close back beneath it returns price to where the tape sat when nothing about the launch was known, which is now also roughly the state of public knowledge about the fleet. Below that, the prior structural reference at $330 and the $297.38 52-week low have no dense 2026 shelf between them.
Overhead, the round $400 is where Morgan Stanley's target sits (2026-09-03) and close to the Barchart survey average of $397.60 (2026-09-01) — a level the tape has to clear against consensus marks rather than with them.
Crowding observables, stated as observables: a single-session 5.5% advance into a scheduled event whose content was embargoed; an 11% same-day move in a Tesla-tied leveraged ETF (Benzinga, 2026-09-03); TSLA on Benzinga Pro's most-searched August ticker leaderboard (2026-09-02); and prediction-market volume of roughly $48,500 on the Cybercab retail-sale question, thin enough to read as a sentiment mark. No insider transactions or issuance appear in the filing record for this window.
Catalyst Calendar (next 30 days)
- 2026-09-15 — US recall 26V507 owner-notification letters mail (20,349 vehicles).
- 2026-09-25 — China door-release recall takes effect across 2,975,910 vehicles (warning labels plus an OTA window-lowering update).
- ~2026-10-02 (est.) — Q3 2026 production and delivery release. The first company-reported number after the event window and the only scheduled disclosure that can settle whether Q2's 480,126 deliveries were a peak or a base.
Elapsed catalysts
- ~2026-09-08 (est.) — CPCA detailed August breakdown by market and model. Splits the 86,166 wholesale figure into domestic deliveries and exports, showing whether July's 70.88% export share and -32.91% domestic decline extended. (passed 3d ago)
- Undated: the EU vote on wider FSD approval referenced in Tesla's 2026-09-01 safety claim has no published date; nor does any Tesla disclosure of Cybercab ride pricing or an operating fleet count. (passed 10d ago)
What Would Change Our Mind
The structure that carries this read is the $356–357 pre-event shelf, and the thing that would break the read upward is a number rather than a level. Specifically: Tesla stating a count of Cybercabs in unsupervised public service, publishing Cybercab ride pricing, or naming a general paid-rollout date — any of which would convert a registration-tracker story into a measurable one and would justify the 09-03 repricing after the fact. A Q3 delivery release on or around 2026-10-02 above Q2's 480,126, or a September China wholesale print that re-accelerates from August's +3.57% YoY, would do the same on the volume leg.
The downside condition is gradeable: a daily close below $357 gives back the whole 2026-09-03 advance and puts price under the shelf that existed before any event content was public. A weekly close below $330 would hand back the bulk of the advance off the $297.38 52-week low. On the fundamental side, a third major house following Jefferies' 2026-08-07 37% FY26 EBIT reduction to $3.9B, or Q3 EPS printing under the $0.26 consensus, marks the earnings leg down again while the multiple rests on autonomy.
Correlation Notes
The EV & autonomous mobility cluster (RIVN, BIDU, GOOG alongside TSLA) flipped back to accelerating in the 2026-09-03 weekly reading after eight consecutive maturing readings running from 2026-06-26. A heating cluster lowers the bar on a group trade; it does not supply the fleet number this single name is missing, and the cluster's own re-acceleration is dated to the same event week.
GOOG/Waymo is the direct comparator under identical paperwork: the Nevada Transportation Authority certificates cover Tesla, Waymo and Uber for up to 8,000 driverless vehicles over 12 months, so whichever operator bills paid Clark County miles first sets the reference for per-mile economics. Uber's reported 3,300 job cuts (Benzinga, 2026-09-03) are being traded as autonomy-displacement evidence and cut in the same direction.
Macro correlation is live: the 09-03 tape rallied broadly on Waller's hint of a September Fed hold, so a Magnificent Seven beta name moved with the index on the same day it moved on Cybercab. Musk's off-ticker output — G20 remarks on EU tech regulation and data-centre energy sourcing, 2026-09-01 — adds coverage volume without touching an operating number.
Notes
- 2026-04-19: AI/robotics/FSD narrative — Optimus + Robotaxi binary catalysts
- 2026-06-05: JPMorgan perma-bear analyst flipped to Neutral, PT $475; TD Cowen reiterated Buy $490 (6/4). Two upgrades in 48h AFTER the 6/2 gap-down. Treat as sentiment-regime datapoint, not a buy trigger on its own.
- 2026-06-04: Robotaxi removed safety monitors + widened Austin map BUT fleet shrank to 20 cars. The scale tell (fleet count / weekly rides) matters more than the driverless milestone — track whether 20 expands or contracts.
- 2026-06-05: Roadster demo slipped to August (cold-gas thruster work w/ SpaceX) — third robotics catalyst to slip/disappoint; now outside 30d window.
- Tesla does not publish robotaxi operating fleet counts; every circulating figure comes from third-party trackers or state vehicle-registration databases.
- Tesla has never disclosed a cumulative Optimus production unit count.
- Four NHTSA investigations into FSD/Autopilot remain open; EA26002 is an Engineering Analysis, the last stage before a case closes or a recall is requested.
- Tesla's China wholesale figure includes exports; domestic retail moves separately and fell 32.91% YoY in July 2026 while exports hit a record 66,330.
- Prediction-market contracts on this name are thin — roughly $48,500 of volume on the Cybercab retail-sale question — so they read as sentiment marks rather than forecasts.
- Musk's off-ticker headlines (SpaceX, xAI, power generation, political spending) drive TSLA coverage volume without touching its operating numbers.
