Against its published line

Above its line on the last close.

How to read this

The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on 27 October 2026; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.

Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.

Kill line

A daily close below $6.00, the round-number level under the 20 October 2026 close of $6.69. Also, a continuing-operations outlook on 5 November 2026 showing growth no faster than the roughly 3% guided for 2026, or the Rotech sale failing to close.

Not a pickResearch coverage at low conviction. A medium-or-higher call would open a pick on the scoreboard.

The thesis

Inogen is selling its shrinking US oxygen rental business to Rotech Healthcare and will be left as a company that only makes and sells oxygen concentrators. The products that remain are barely growing. Third-quarter results on 5 November 2026 will be the first to report the rental business as discontinued operations, and they decide whether the slimmer company grows fast enough to carry the shares. Until then, the evidence makes the shares slightly more likely to lag the S&P 500 than to beat it over the next three months.

The growth figures are thin. Second-quarter 2026 revenue was $95.1 million, up 3.0% year on year and up 0.6% in constant currency (company release, 6 August 2026). The company guided full-year 2026 revenue to $355 million–$361 million and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) to about $4.0 million. It also guided third-quarter revenue roughly in line with the third quarter of 2025.

The narrative is accelerating in a narrow way. The 30 September 2026 divestiture announcement gave the story its first real news in months. The 14-day relative strength index (RSI) of 78.3 on 20 October 2026 shows heavy buying concentrated in a few weeks. The main crowding facts are that overbought reading and an earnings date 11 trading days away.

Bullish and bearish views on Inogen, Inc

The bull case on Inogen, Inc (INGN), in brief: The sale removes a shrinking unit. The bear case: Core growth is close to zero.

Bull case

  • The sale removes a shrinking unit. Rental revenue was $24.3 million in the first half of 2026, down 9.8% year on year, and Rotech will pay up to $25 million in cash for the rental assets (company 8-K, 30 September 2026). Inogen said the deal should raise both its revenue growth rate and its adjusted operating income.
  • Rotech becomes a distribution partner. Alongside the sale, Inogen signed a long-term agreement for Rotech's national network to distribute its concentrators (company 8-K, 30 September 2026). That turns a former rental competitor into a sales channel.
  • Cash with no debt. Cash, marketable securities and restricted cash totaled $106.8 million at the end of the second quarter of 2026, with no debt outstanding (company release, 6 August 2026).
  • A larger buyback depends on the deal closing. Once the deal closes, the board will raise the repurchase authorization by $15 million to $45 million, available until 30 June 2028 (company 8-K, 30 September 2026).
  • Analyst targets sit well above the price. Simply Wall St reported after the August 2026 results that the average target of three analysts rose to $12.67, in a range of $12 to $14. Target data from other aggregators disagree and some are stale.

Bear case

  • Core growth is close to zero. The 0.6% constant-currency growth in the second quarter of 2026 means most of the 3.0% reported growth came from currency (company release, 6 August 2026).
  • After the divestiture, the US becomes an even larger share of what is left (company release, 6 August 2026).
  • Profit is very small. Second-quarter 2026 adjusted EBITDA was $2.4 million, and the GAAP net loss was $3.9 million. Full-year adjusted EBITDA guidance of about $4.0 million compares with $355 million–$361 million of revenue (company release, 6 August 2026).
  • The third quarter was guided flat. Management blamed a shift in its US sales channels and the timing of stocking orders from international distributors (company release, 6 August 2026).
  • Deal value is a ceiling. The consideration is "up to" $25 million, and the closing in the fourth quarter of 2026 is subject to customary conditions (company 8-K, 30 September 2026).

Price setup

The shares closed at $6.69 on 20 October 2026, 25.3% below their 52-week high of $8.95, based on split- and dividend-adjusted daily closes. They are up 5.9% over three months. The 14-day RSI was 78.3 that day, above the 70 level usually read as overbought. Gains that run this far ahead of an earnings report often fade if the report brings no new numbers. The case weakens on a daily close below $6.00, the round-number level under the 20 October 2026 close.

Catalysts, next 30 days

  • 5 November 2026, after the market close (call at 5:00 p.m. Eastern): third-quarter 2026 results. Inogen expects to report the rental business as discontinued operations for the first time. It also expects to publish past rental results and an outlook for continuing operations (company 8-K, 30 September 2026; company release, 15 October 2026).
  • Fourth quarter of 2026, no date set (~31 December 2026 at the latest, est.): closing of the Rotech sale. Closing triggers the larger $45 million buyback authorization.

What would change the view

The case breaks if the 5 November 2026 outlook for continuing operations shows growth no faster than the roughly 3% guided for 2026 as a whole. That would mean the divestiture changed the reporting without changing the business. A second break would be the Rotech deal failing to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, or closing well below $25 million.

The rating would rise if the continuing-operations outlook showed clearly faster growth than 3%, US sales returned to growth, and the buyback began after closing. In price terms, a daily close below $6.00 would mean the market has rejected the restructuring story.

What it trades with

Inogen sits in the medtech and diagnostics group with GRAL, QDEL, EMBC and DXCM. The group's weekly momentum reading accelerated from 27 September 2026 through 11 October 2026 and then cooled to maturing on 18 October 2026. A cooling group raises the bar for a single-name case. Inogen's revenue depends on oxygen concentrators sold to COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) patients, distributors and home-care providers. In this analysis, its shares follow company news such as the Rotech deal and the 5 November 2026 report more closely than the group. A sharp drop in DXCM or GRAL would matter less than Inogen's own guidance.

Notes

  • Starting with third-quarter 2026 results, Inogen expects to report its US rental business as discontinued operations, so reported revenue will not match earlier periods without restated figures.
  • The increase of the share repurchase authorization to $45 million depends on the Rotech sale closing, and the authorization expires 30 June 2028.
  • Analyst price-target data for Inogen come from only two or three analysts and differ across aggregators.
