AM&C inflection is now the entire story: the 2026-08-04 Q2 print put segment revenue at $105M (+40% YoY) and consolidated operational EBITDA at $36M vs $9M, and the ~$9.20 shelf reclaimed on that print has held — the 2026-08-21 close was $9.84 with daily RSI(14) cooling from 80.4 to 71.6. No company release or filing since the print, still no named offtake, and ~43.9M resale-registered shares sit overhead.
Kill line
A weekly close below $9.20 surrenders the shelf reclaimed on the 2026-08-04 print and re-opens the July downtrend; secondarily, a Q3 print with AM&C revenue under the $105M Q2 level and still no named battery or pharma counterparty would recast the segment jump as a film-demand pulse.

KODK — Eastman Kodak Company
Current Thesis
Since the last note nothing new has been filed, announced or disclosed. Kodak's most recent company-issued document is still the 2026-08-04 Q2 release and 10-Q; the SEC filing trail shows no 8-K, no 424B supplement and no Form 4 between then and 2026-08-21. In that vacuum the price did something worth recording: it held. The 2026-08-14 reference close of $10.00 became $9.84 on 2026-08-21 — a give-back of roughly 1.6% over five sessions — while daily RSI(14) unwound from 80.4 to 71.6. Momentum came off far faster than price, and the ~$9.20 shelf lost in July and reclaimed on the print was never retested.
The narrative leg being bought is unchanged and narrow: that a 130-year-old coating and emulsion business can redirect film-line capacity into battery electrodes and regulated pharma reagents at structurally better margin. Q2 2026 is the first quarter whose segment numbers are consistent with that claim — Advanced Materials & Chemicals revenue $105M vs $75M (+40% YoY), segment operational EBITDA $22M vs $8M, consolidated revenue $311M vs $263M, gross margin 26% vs 19%, consolidated operational EBITDA $36M vs $9M, GAAP net income $17M against a $26M loss a year earlier. What has still never appeared, through the 2026-08-04 call and the three weeks since: a named battery offtake, a named pharma customer, a dollar-sized volume commitment, or forward guidance of any kind.
The narrative is maturing. The acceleration phase is dated and closed — it ran from the 2026-08-04 print through the 2026-08-14 close, on one release. Since then the name has produced no fresh headlines (Benzinga's last KODK-specific item is the 2026-08-04 EPS correction), carries no major-house ratings or price targets, and the tape has moved sideways-to-lower on cooling momentum. That is a well-established story still holding its structure with moderating flow, and it is not yet late-cycle: there is no mainstream coverage wave, no retail-sentiment cluster and no analyst chorus to exhaust.
Bullish and bearish views on Eastman Kodak Company
The model's bull view on Eastman Kodak Company (KODK), in brief: The segment is now material, not a pilot line. The bear view: Three months of motion, no net progress. Both cases follow in full.
Bull Case
- The segment is now material, not a pilot line. AM&C revenue of $105M in Q2 2026 is roughly a third of the $311M consolidated top line, against +3% YoY AM&C growth in Q1 2026 — the change in trajectory, not the level, is the fact the market repriced on 2026-08-04.
- Margin moved with volume. Gross profit $82M vs $51M on 26% margin versus 19%; consolidated operational EBITDA quadrupled to $36M from $9M (2026-08-04 press release). Operating leverage of that shape is difficult to produce from mix alone.
- Deleveraging funded from pension assets. $101M of term loans repaid and $87M of KRIP redemption proceeds received in the quarter; cash $290M at 2026-06-30 against $337M at 2025-12-31, with a $37M inventory build accounting for much of the difference.
- The legacy cash engine has not rolled over. Print revenue $195M in Q2 2026, +10% YoY — the funding source for electrode-coating capex is still growing.
- Structure survived a three-week news blackout. No company release between 2026-08-04 and 2026-08-21, no retest of the ~$9.20 shelf, and RSI(14) reset from 80.4 to 71.6 without a distribution break. Inferred, not measured: post-event supply into the advance was absorbed rather than overwhelming it.
- BlackRock disclosed a 5.5% stake in a Schedule 13G filed 2026-07-28 — a passive-vehicle disclosure, but a dated institutional footprint in a name aggregators show with no sell-side price targets at all.
Bear Case
- Three months of motion, no net progress. The three-month price change is +0.2% and the 2026-08-21 close of $9.84 sits 32.2% below the $14.51 52-week high. The May drawdown and the August recovery have almost exactly cancelled.
- The entire re-rating rests on one release. No 8-K, no 424B, no Form 4 and no press release since 2026-08-04. A narrative running on a single datapoint has no second confirmation until the Q3 print, estimated early November — outside any 30-day window.
- Supply overhead is untouched. The 424B7 of 2026-07-01 registered up to ~39.46M resale shares and the 424B3 of 2026-07-08 a further 4.43M; both are secondary resale with no proceeds to the company. The $100M ATM shelf filed November 2025 remains available and can be drawn at management's discretion.
- Capability is not a contract. The Kodak–Ateios RaiCore platform expansion to LCO, LFP and NMC chemistries — with third-party testing placing total organic fluorine below the 20-ppm analytical reporting limit against the 100-ppm PFAS threshold — was announced earlier in 2026 and named no customer, no volume and no dollar value. Class II pharma certification was described on the 2026-08-04 call as still in progress.
- Silver is a cost, not a hedge. Management flagged on the 2026-08-04 call that silver prices were more than double year-end levels and that the inventory build was primarily silver-related. The 26% Q2 gross margin has not yet been tested against a full quarter of that input at the higher level.
- Attribution risk inside the AM&C jump. Segment growth spans motion picture film demand, pharma reagents and battery coating. The release did not break the +40% into those lines, so the market is pricing an electrification ramp against a number that may be substantially film.
Setup & Price Structure
- Reference levels (split/dividend-adjusted daily bars). Last completed close $9.84 on 2026-08-21; 52-week high $14.51, leaving the shares 32.2% below it; three-month price change +0.2%; daily RSI(14) 71.6.
- The one structure that carries the read is the ~$9.20 shelf — the June range floor lost during July and reclaimed on the 2026-08-04 print. It has not been retested since. A weekly close beneath it returns the chart to the July downtrend and removes the only technical evidence the print changed anything durable.
- Momentum reset without a price break. RSI(14) fell from 80.4 on the 2026-08-14 close to 71.6 on 2026-08-21 while price gave back roughly 1.6%. Still above 70, so the shares remain extended by that measure and a fresh entry at $9.84 buys into a move that has already happened.
- Crowding and positioning — the observables, without a verdict. Short interest reported near 8.24M shares, ~16% of float, 5.5 days to cover, down ~6.5% month-over-month (third-party trackers, 2026-08-14); the next FINRA publication is the first look at whether that base kept covering into the advance. Combined resale registrations of ~43.9M shares sit above the market alongside an undrawn $100M ATM. No major-house price targets are listed by aggregators, so there is no revision cycle providing an incremental bid. No insider Form 4 sales appear in the filing trail after the print.
Catalyst Calendar (next 30 days)
- ~2026-08-26 (est.) — FINRA semi-monthly short-interest publication covering the 2026-08-14 settlement date. First positioning read spanning the post-print advance.
- ~2026-09-10 (est.) — FINRA publication for the 2026-08-31 settlement date. Second read; a rising short base against a holding shelf and a falling one describe different flow.
- Undated but observable — any 424B prospectus supplement or ATM take-down appears in EDGAR the day it happens; there is no scheduled window and no announcement obligation ahead of it.
- ~2026-11-10 (est.) — Q3 2026 results. Outside the 30-day window and the next genuine binary: whether AM&C repeats $105M, whether 26% gross margin survives silver, and whether a counterparty is finally named.
What Would Change Our Mind
The structure carrying this read is the ~$9.20 shelf reclaimed on 2026-08-04; losing it means the print bought three weeks of price and nothing more. Concretely, a weekly close below $9.20 ends the post-print leg and re-opens the July downtrend. A secondary break is fundamental and arrives on the Q3 report: AM&C revenue printing below the $105M Q2 level, or segment commentary attributing the growth primarily to motion picture film with battery volumes still at pilot scale, would recast the +40% quarter as a demand pulse. A third: a 424B supplement or a materially higher weighted-average share count showing the ATM was drawn into the advance would establish that strength is being sold into by the issuer.
Upward revision has an equally specific shape. A named counterparty with a dollar value or volume commitment attached — the single disclosure absent from every quarter of this pivot — would convert the story from segment arithmetic into contracted revenue, and would do so on a date, not a trend.
Correlation Notes
- Silver is an input, so the sign is inverted versus miners. Kodak consumes silver in film and coating; the 2026-08-04 call flagged prices more than double year-end levels. A further silver advance pressures the 26% gross margin rather than helping it.
- Print, at $195M of $311M in Q2 2026, tracks commercial print and packaging volumes, plus motion picture film demand — a cyclical exposure that has little to do with the battery narrative the multiple is being argued on.
- The electrification read is sentiment-linked, not revenue-linked. With no named battery offtake, moves alongside the lithium and battery-materials complex reflect thematic flow rather than any contracted cash flow.
- A ~16%-of-float short base with 5.5 days to cover means single headlines produce outsized moves in both directions, and the name can trade with small-cap squeeze episodes independently of its own fundamentals.
- The coverage vacuum makes prints the dominant price event. No major-house targets means no drip of estimate revisions between reports; price gaps around scheduled disclosure instead of drifting toward a consensus.
Notes
- The 2026-07-01 424B7 registered up to ~39.46M resale shares and the 2026-07-08 424B3 a further 4.43M — secondary resale, no proceeds to the company, a standing supply overhang.
- A $100M ATM shelf filed November 2025 remains available; issuance into strength can occur at any time with no advance notice.
- The KRIP pension reversion completed 2025-12-02 ($1.023B freed, ~$767M reverted). It is realized and in the price, not a forward catalyst.
- Aggregators list no major-house ratings or price targets on KODK; there is no sell-side revision cycle between prints.
- Benzinga issued a same-day correction on 2026-08-04 restating Q2 EPS as $0.13 after first reporting $(0.13); automated screens may still carry the wrong sign.
- AM&C growth spans motion picture film, pharma reagents and battery coating, and the company does not break the segment into those lines.
