Above its line on the last close.
How to read this
The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on 22 October 2026; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.
Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.
Kill line
A daily close below $3.30, which would extend the October decline beyond the 22 October 2026 close of $3.74. A third-quarter Data & Analytics revenue figure below $7.1 million with negative operating income would also break the case.
Not a pickResearch coverage at low conviction. A medium-or-higher call would open a pick on the scoreboard.

How picks are graded →The thesis
Satellogic's Merlin satellite launch went to plan, but the shares have fallen through the level that anchored the recovery case, so the case is now unproven. The adjusted close was $3.74 on 22 October 2026, below the $4.79 September low and below $5.15 on 9 October 2026. Satellogic's commissioning results and its third-quarter report settle whether the sell-off was overdone.
The narrative is maturing: the company said on 2 October 2026 that Merlin.01, two NewSat Mark VI satellites and one NewSat Mark V satellite launched on 1 October 2026 on a SpaceX Falcon 9, and the stock has fallen in the three weeks since. Satellogic targets full Merlin capacity for the second half of 2027. Company news through 22 October 2026 contains no announcement that explains the decline.
Bullish and bearish views on Satellogic Inc.
The bull case on Satellogic Inc. (SATL), in brief: Launch risk is retired. The bear case: The recovery level failed.
Bull case
- Launch risk is retired. Satellogic reported on 2 October 2026 that all four satellites reached orbit and contacted its ground stations. Commissioning was due to start in mid-October 2026.
- Second-quarter results beat. Revenue was $15.9 million against a $9.6 million consensus, and operating income was $0.3 million (Satellogic release, 5 August 2026). Investing.com reports cash of $112.8 million and debt reduced to $18 million after the quarter.
- Defense work has defined scope. On 14 September 2026 Satellogic said expanded Innovative Defense Technologies work supports integrating six NewSat Mark VI satellites into the Office of Naval Research's Slingshot III program over 18 months. No contract value was stated.
- Analyst targets sit far above the price. Cantor Fitzgerald rated the shares Buy with a $10 target on 6 August 2026, per Investing.com. The 14-day relative strength index (a momentum gauge on a 0–100 scale) was 18.2 on 22 October 2026, a level usually read as heavily oversold.
Bear case
- The recovery level failed. The adjusted close of $3.74 on 22 October 2026 is below the $4.79 close of 11 September 2026 that the prior note named as the line for the recovery. The shares are 65.2% below the 52-week high of $10.74.
- The sell-off followed good news. The shares fell after a clean launch and the Slingshot III announcement. Yahoo Finance showed a close of $3.84 on 16 October 2026, down 6.57% that day.
- Revenue depends on delivery timing. Space Systems produced $8.8 million of the $15.9 million of second-quarter revenue (Satellogic, 5 August 2026). One positive operating quarter is too small a sample to show durable profit.
- Cash lagged reported profit. Second-quarter operating activities used $8.6 million of cash, with in-orbit satellite-sale proceeds booked as investing cash flow.
- Share issuance has a history. Satellogic sold about 7.4 million Class A shares at $4.73 in a registered direct offering that closed on 27 January 2026, and $12.0 million of convertible notes converted into shares in the June quarter. A further equity raise would weigh on the shares.
- Defense sentiment is weak. Benzinga reported on 29 September 2026 that defense stocks were on a seventh straight weekly loss.
Price setup
The last adjusted close was $3.74 on 22 October 2026. The 14-day relative strength index was 18.2, down from 43.3 on 9 October 2026. The shares are still up 5.6% over three months, because the 2026-07 starting point was lower.
The 11 September 2026 close of $4.79 now sits above the price and acts as overhead resistance. A rebound toward it would need a catalyst, since no new company news has appeared. Crowding evidence is limited to the 52-week range: Yahoo Finance listed a range of $1.255 to $12.00 on 16 October 2026, which shows how wide recent swings have been. No insider sale or new offering is visible in company news since the prior note.
Catalysts, next 30 days
- Merlin commissioning results (mid-to-late October 2026, est.). Image quality and onboard processing tests check the product claims behind the 2027 capacity target.
- Third-quarter 2026 results (~4 November 2026 to ~16 November 2026, est.). Satellogic has not confirmed a date. Investing.com lists 16 November 2026; the second quarter was reported on 5 August 2026. The report shows whether Data & Analytics revenue holds near the second quarter's $7.1 million and whether operating income stays positive.
What would change the view
The case breaks if third-quarter Data & Analytics revenue falls below $7.1 million with negative operating income, or if commissioning discloses a delay or performance shortfall. A new equity offering priced below the current market would also weaken it. A daily close below $3.30 would extend the decline and end the thesis.
The case would strengthen if the third-quarter report shows positive operating income without a large satellite delivery and commissioning meets the stated imaging specifications. The prior invalidation level of $4.79 has already been breached, so the rating stays at the low end until those results arrive.
What it trades with
Satellogic trades with space and defense-technology shares more than with the broad market. Benzinga reported on 29 September 2026 that the defense ETF XAR was on its longest weekly losing streak since 2011, citing Iran peace talks and a stalled U.S. budget. Its naval work ties part of the story to defense budget sentiment. The Merlin launch and commissioning are company-specific events that can move the shares independently of that group.
Notes
- Satellite-delivery timing makes quarterly revenue uneven: Space Systems produced $8.8 million of $15.9 million of revenue in the quarter ended 30 June 2026.
- Satellogic had $18.0 million of secured convertible-note principal outstanding at 30 June 2026 after $12.0 million converted into Class A shares in that quarter.
- The company has used registered direct offerings before, including about $35 million of Class A shares sold at $4.73 in January 2026.
