The 2026-08-12 print removed the binary without restoring the base: revenue $18.048M just under $18.139M consensus, adj EPS $(0.31) a beat, FY26 revenue held at $75–85M with >85% of the midpoint contracted — but both EPS guides were cut and $23.4M of quarterly operating cash burn sits against ~$92M of cash. At $13.94 (08-21) the lost $15–16 June shelf is still overhead.
Kill line
A weekly close below $13 puts price under the entire August contract-news bid (NOAA $3M 08-04, $3.7M 08-14) and leaves the $15–16 June shelf unreclaimed. Secondary: an ATM or registered offering disclosed against the ~$92M cash line, or 2026-09-18 passing with no close above $15.

Current Thesis
The 2026-08-12 Q2 print resolved the binary this name had been trading into, and it resolved ambiguously. Revenue came in at $18.048M against $18.139M consensus — a miss by a hair — while adjusted EPS of $(0.31) beat the $(0.39) estimate. FY26 revenue was affirmed at $75.0–85.0M, and management said more than 85% of the midpoint is already under contract, up from the 76% cited on 2026-05-13. Against that, both EPS guides were cut: GAAP FY26 to $(1.74)–$(1.60) from $(1.55)–$(1.41), adjusted to $(0.95)–$(0.81) from $(0.93)–$(0.79). Two days later NOAA awarded a $3.7M satellite weather-data contract running 2026-09-18 to 2026-12-01, the largest single dated dollar figure attached to the name this cycle. The narrative leg on offer now is narrow and government-funded: NOAA sounding and weather-data work converting a contracted backlog into the affirmed $75–85M, with the European defense MoUs as unpriced option value. What the tape says about that leg is that it has not been enough to reclaim the $15–16 shelf lost in early August.
Bullish and bearish views on Spire Global, Inc.
The model's bull view on Spire Global, Inc. (SPIR), in brief: Contracted coverage improved through the print (2026-08-12): more than 85% of the FY26 revenue midpoint under contract versus 76% disclosed on 2026-05-13, with remaining performance obligations of $134.47M at 2026-06-30 and roughly $51.39M of that expected to be recognised… The bear view: The June structure is still overhead: $13.94 (2026-08-21) sits below the $15–16 shelf built after the Diehl Defence MoU of 2026-06-10 and below the $17.40–18.00 post-earnings shelf from 2026-05-14. Both cases follow in full.
Bull Case
- Contracted coverage improved through the print (2026-08-12): more than 85% of the FY26 revenue midpoint under contract versus 76% disclosed on 2026-05-13, with remaining performance obligations of $134.47M at 2026-06-30 and roughly $51.39M of that expected to be recognised within twelve months.
- Core growth is real once maritime is stripped (2026-08-12): Q2 revenue of $18.048M was down 6% YoY on a headline that still contains the divested maritime business, but up 16% YoY and 19% sequentially excluding it; total revenue rose 14% sequentially.
- Loss narrowing at the operating line (2026-08-12): adjusted EBITDA of $(8.6)M against $(10.2)M a year earlier; cash used in operations of $23.4M, an improvement of 32% YoY and 11% sequentially.
- NOAA keeps writing dated cheques: a six-month, $3M HyMS evaluation extension on 2026-08-04, then a $3.7M weather-data award on 2026-08-14 covering 2026-09-18 through 2026-12-01.
- Balance sheet is unlevered: approximately $92M in cash, equivalents and marketable securities at 2026-06-30, with the company describing itself as debt-free, plus a $12.40M arbitral award issued in its favour on 2026-07-31 with all NorthStar claims against it dismissed.
- Sell-side marks did not move down after the print: Stifel Buy $24 and Craig-Hallum Buy $22 on 2026-08-13, Canaccord Buy $23 on 2026-08-17; the published average target stands near $20.88 across four analysts, low $15, high $24.
Bear Case
- The June structure is still overhead: $13.94 (2026-08-21) sits below the $15–16 shelf built after the Diehl Defence MoU of 2026-06-10 and below the $17.40–18.00 post-earnings shelf from 2026-05-14. Neither has been reclaimed on a closing price in the six weeks since.
- Contract news is landing in single-digit millions: $3M (2026-08-04) and $3.7M (2026-08-14) against an FY26 revenue frame of $75–85M. The scale of the announcements is small relative to the range they are meant to support.
- Burn against cash is the live question: $23.4M of operating cash use in Q2 against approximately $92M of cash and marketable securities at 2026-06-30. Inference, not disclosure: at anything near the Q2 rate the financing horizon is measured in quarters, and no funding plan was disclosed alongside it.
- The EPS guide moved the wrong way (2026-08-12): the GAAP range was cut by roughly nineteen cents at both ends while revenue was left untouched, which puts the cost line rather than the demand line under scrutiny.
- MoUs remain MoUs: Diehl (2026-06-10), Schaeffler (2026-05-27) and Amadeus (2026-05-19) were each disclosed without an award value, and the 2026-08-12 call did not attach one.
- The award is not revenue: $12.40M from a private counterparty, non-operating, with collection timing undisclosed as of 2026-08-05.
Setup & Price Structure
The narrative is maturing. The dates behind that label — the defense-MoU leg that ran from 2026-06-10 lost its $15–16 shelf in early August and has not printed a close back above it through 2026-08-21; meanwhile the story kept producing funded, dated contracts (2026-08-04, 2026-08-14) and every covering analyst maintained Buy after the print (2026-08-13, 2026-08-13, 2026-08-17). Well known, still generating awards, with flow moderating rather than expanding. It would flip to saturated if further NOAA awards land and price still cannot close above $15–16.
Structure: the 2026-08-21 close of $13.94 is 2.7% under the 2026-08-07 close of $14.33 and 45.3% under the $25.48 52-week high. RSI(14) has cooled from 71.8 (2026-08-07) to 63.8 (2026-08-21) — the late-July bounce lost momentum without giving back much price, which is consolidation under resistance rather than a base above it.
Crowding and positioning observables, stated as observables: the published average target of $20.88 sits 49.8% above the last close on a four-analyst poll, none of whom cut after a quarter that missed on revenue and lowered EPS guidance; the low mark in that set is $15, itself above the tape. There is no imminent earnings date — the next scheduled print is the Q3 report, expected in November. The issuance channel is the one to watch: a guided full-year loss and $23.4M quarterly operating cash use against roughly $92M of liquidity is the standard precondition for an ATM or registered offering, and no such disclosure has appeared as of 2026-08-21.
Catalyst Calendar (next 30 days)
- 2026-09-18 — NOAA satellite weather-data contract delivery window opens, $3.7M through 2026-12-01 (announced 2026-08-14). Revenue recognition under the largest single dated NOAA award of the year begins here.
- Rolling, no fixed date — conversion of any 2026 MoU (Diehl 06-10, Schaeffler 05-27, Amadeus 05-19) into a valued contract. None carried financial terms at announcement; a valued award would be the first.
- ~2026-11-10 (est.) — Q3 FY26 results. Outside the 30-day window; the first scheduled test of whether the >85% contracted midpoint converts.
What Would Change Our Mind
The structural break is the $15–16 shelf, lost in early August and unreclaimed at the 2026-08-21 close of $13.94. If the two NOAA awards of 2026-08-04 and 2026-08-14 plus a maintained Buy-weighted sell side cannot produce a close back above that shelf, the funded-government-revenue leg is being priced as already known. A weekly close below $13 puts price under the whole August contract-news bid and marks that leg as failed on the tape; secondary conditions are an ATM or registered offering disclosed against the roughly $92M cash line, or 2026-09-18 arriving and passing with no reclaim of $15.
On the other side, the read would strengthen on a valued defense contract replacing an MoU, or on the FY26 range being narrowed upward at the November print with the contracted-coverage figure above the 85% cited on 2026-08-12.
Correlation Notes
- Trades as the smallest-cap member of the listed space-data complex; drawdowns in RKLB, PL and ASTS have historically dragged it harder than the group, and space-ETF flow (UFO crossed $1B in AUM on 2026-05-28) is a beta channel rather than a fundamental one.
- Revenue concentration runs through US federal weather-data appropriations. NOAA line-item pressure or the lapse of the unfunded $2M three-month HyMS option would hit the revenue narrative and the sentiment narrative simultaneously.
- The European defense pivot ties the option value to EU procurement headlines (ILA Berlin, 2026-06-10) rather than to US programmes, so the name can decouple from US defense primes on either side.
- Headline YoY revenue comparisons are distorted by the 2025 maritime divestiture; the 08-12 gap between −6% reported and +16% ex-maritime is the size of that distortion.
Notes
- FY26 revenue guidance excludes the maritime business divested in 2025, so headline YoY revenue comparisons are not like-for-like.
- Guided to a full-year loss: FY26 GAAP EPS $(1.74)–$(1.60) and adjusted EPS $(0.95)–$(0.81), both cut at the 2026-08-12 print.
- The Diehl (06-10), Schaeffler (05-27) and Amadeus (05-19) 2026 agreements were each disclosed as MoUs with no award value and no financial terms.
- The $12.40M arbitral award (2026-07-31) is a non-operating legal outcome against a private counterparty; collection timing was not disclosed.
- NOAA's additional three-month HyMS option, valued at $2M, was disclosed as unfunded on 2026-08-04.
- Company describes itself as debt-free, with roughly $92M in cash, equivalents and marketable securities at 2026-06-30 against $23.4M of Q2 operating cash use.

Deal-arb: $27.00 cash plus a collared RKLB stock leg marks a $54.00 package against the 2026-08-24 close of $47.30, a 12.41% discount. The S-4/A filed 2026-08-24 finally dated the special meeting (2026-09-24), but RKLB at $68.28 sits just 1.16% above the $67.50 collar floor — below it the package floats one-for-one with the acquirer.

Deployment-cadence leg goes dead: the 2026-08-24 close of $62.35 (-9.2%, per GuruFocus) erased the 08-21 reclaim and broke below the 08-20 intraday low of $62.89, with BlueBirds 14/15/16 still undated 15 days after "ready to ship shortly." At $62.35 the tape prices below even Barclays' $65 Underweight target and below the $79.57 conversion price on the 2034 notes.

Every reported close since 8/14 has stepped down — $24.69 to $22.17 on 8/20 — the 50-day/200-day gap widened to $25.53 vs $26.55, and the 8/20 low of $21.57 sat four cents above the 8/3 close. The unrevised 6/4 guide (FY27 $425–441M, Q2 $102–107M) is the last figure not marked down with the tape; the 9/3 Q2 FY27 print is the binary.
