How to read this
The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on 29 October 2026; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.
Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.
Kill line
A daily close below $77, under the $77.26 50-day moving average MarketBeat reported on 21 October 2026; or third-quarter marketplace GMS below the $2.53 billion low end of guidance.
Not a pickResearch coverage at low conviction. A medium-or-higher call would open a pick on the scoreboard.
How picks are graded →The thesis
Etsy's core marketplace is growing again now that Depop and Reverb are gone. At the $86.93 close on 23 October 2026, though, the shares already trade above the $86.21 consensus target MarketBeat reported on 21 October 2026. The third-quarter report on 28 October 2026 and its fourth-quarter guidance will show whether growth can carry the price higher.
The improvement is real. In its second-quarter shareholder letter on 5 August 2026, Etsy reported marketplace gross merchandise sales (GMS, the total value of goods sold on the site) of $2.6 billion, up 7.5% from a year earlier. It also raised its full-year GMS outlook to 4% to 6% growth. Margins are high and rising, and buybacks are large.
Most of that is now known and priced. The company's own third-quarter guidance points to slower growth than the second quarter delivered, and active buyers have stopped growing. The relative strength index (RSI, a 0–100 momentum gauge) stood at 74.9 on 23 October 2026, an overbought reading three sessions before the report. The narrative is maturing: analyst upgrades bunched in August and September 2026, and a search turned up no new target changes in October.
Bullish and bearish views on Etsy, Inc.
The bull case on Etsy, Inc. (ETSY), in brief: Marketplace sales growth picked up again. The bear case: Buyer growth has stalled.
Bull case
- Marketplace sales growth picked up again. Etsy marketplace GMS rose 7.5% year on year to $2.6 billion in the second quarter of 2026, and marketplace revenue rose 9.3%, according to the 5 August 2026 shareholder letter.
- Margins are high and guided higher. Adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) was $195 million in the second quarter, a 29.2% margin. Etsy raised its full-year margin outlook to 29%–30% from 28%–30% on 5 August 2026.
- Cost cuts lower the expense base. Etsy announced the elimination of about 220 roles, roughly 12% of staff, leaving about 1,600 employees. It put the charges at about $35 million and expected the cuts to be largely done by the end of the third quarter of 2026.
- Buybacks are large and funded. Etsy repurchased about 3.9 million shares for $250 million in the second quarter. Its board authorised a new $2 billion program on 3 August 2026, and the Depop sale to eBay, closed 30 July 2026, brought in about $1.4 billion in cash in the third quarter.
- Several brokers upgraded the shares. BofA Securities upgraded to Buy with a $105 target in August 2026. Oppenheimer moved to Outperform with a $90 target and BTIG to Buy with a $90 target, both in September 2026.
Bear case
- Buyer growth has stalled. Active buyers were about 87 million over the trailing twelve months, roughly flat year on year, according to the 5 August 2026 letter. Growth is coming from existing buyers and fees, and the buyer count has not risen.
- Guidance points to slower growth. Third-quarter GMS guidance is $2.53 billion to $2.58 billion, up 4% to 6% year on year, below the 7.5% growth reported for the second quarter.
- The shares already trade at the analysts' target. MarketBeat's consensus target was $86.21 on 21 October 2026, against the $86.93 close on 23 October 2026. Its rating count is 18 Hold, 14 Buy, 2 Strong Buy and 1 Sell.
- Insiders have been selling into the rally. MarketBeat counts 133,251 shares, worth $10,966,499, sold by insiders over the 90 days to 21 October 2026.
- Debt is significant. The balance sheet showed $649.6 million of short-term debt and $2,335.9 million of long-term debt at 30 June 2026.
Price setup
The shares closed at $86.93 on 23 October 2026 in split- and dividend-adjusted daily closes. That is 4.3% below the 52-week high of $90.82. Over three months they gained only 0.5%, yet the 14-day RSI reached 74.9. This means the shares fell during the period and then rallied hard into late October.
MarketBeat reported a 50-day moving average of $77.26 and a 200-day moving average of $72.63 on 21 October 2026, with a 52-week low of $44.00. The close sits well above both averages, and the 50-day sits above the 200-day. A wide gap above a rising average, an overbought RSI and a report three sessions away are the crowding signals that can be seen. Benzinga flagged large options trades in consumer discretionary names, including Etsy, on 15 October 2026.
The $90.82 52-week high is the overhead reference. The 50-day average near $77 is the first support level below the price.

Elapsed catalysts
- 28 October 2026 — third-quarter 2026 report. Etsy's 14 October 2026 press release says results come out before the market opens, with a webcast at 8:30 a.m. Eastern. Consensus is $0.755 earnings per share on about $668.05 million of revenue (MarketBeat, 21 October 2026). The test is marketplace GMS against the $2.53–$2.58 billion range, the active buyer trend, and the first guidance for the fourth-quarter holiday period. (passed 2d ago)
- 28 October 2026 — first full quarter without Depop. The report will include the Depop sale to eBay, closed 30 July 2026, and its cash. It should also show how much of the new $2 billion buyback was used in the third quarter. (passed 2d ago)
What would change the view
The case breaks on the business first. Third-quarter marketplace GMS below the $2.53 billion low end of guidance would break it. So would a second straight quarter of flat or falling active buyers, or a full-year GMS outlook cut from 4%–6%. Any of these would show that the second-quarter pickup was a one-off.
The price signal is a daily close below $77, which would put the shares under the 50-day moving average of $77.26 that MarketBeat reported on 21 October 2026. That would undo most of the late-October rally.
The read would turn more positive on three results together: GMS above $2.58 billion, active buyers growing again, and a full-year outlook raised again. Shares holding above the $90.82 52-week high after the report would show buyers paying above the consensus target.
What it trades with
Etsy trades with consumer discretionary names that depend on spending and interest rates, such as Kohl's, Hasbro, Mattel, Bath & Body Works and Funko. Interest in that group has risen and fallen since August 2026. A broad pullback in the group would hit Etsy regardless of its own results.
The shares are sensitive to rate expectations. Benzinga reported on 15 October 2026 that hot inflation data had raised bets on a Federal Reserve rate hike. Higher rates weigh on spending on non-essential goods, which is most of what Etsy sells.
Within online retail, eBay now owns Depop, which makes it a closer comparison for resale and second-hand fashion. Etsy's 22 October 2026 ban on AI-generated recipes and patterns is a marketplace-trust policy that buyers and sellers will judge. It is not tied to the wider AI trade.
Notes
- Depop, sold to eBay on 30 July 2026, is reported as a discontinued operation, so continuing-operations totals differ from Etsy marketplace figures.
- Reverb was sold in June 2025, and its results remain in prior-year continuing-operations comparisons, which raises the reported take rate.

AOUT
American Outdoor Brands, Inc.
American Outdoor Brands' 53.0% gross margin, raised profit guidance and $10 million buyback have lifted the shares to an $18.07 high; the fiscal second-quarter report, expected in early December, shows whether that margin holds.
ARHS
Arhaus, Inc.
Arhaus's recovery case rests on Q2's 12.5% furniture-order growth turning into delivered sales. The Q3 2026 report, expected around 5 November 2026, settles it: comparable delivered-sales growth needs to beat Q2's 4.0%.
COST
Costco Wholesale Corporation
Costco Wholesale's underlying sales growth reaccelerated to 7.6% in September from 5.4% in August, giving the shares a modest edge over the S&P 500. October sales, listed for 4 November 2026, show whether the rebound holds without the Labor Day lift as the staples rally cools.
CRSR
Corsair Gaming, Inc.
Corsair Gaming's margin recovery has lifted its shares 27.2% in three months to within 5.9% of their 52-week high; the 5 November 2026 third-quarter report shows whether profit holds without a one-time tariff refund and against rising memory costs.
