Above its line on the last close.
How to read this
The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on the last session; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.
Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.
Kill line
A daily close below $1.75, which would extend the slide well beyond the $2.03 close of 21 October 2026. Reported high-performance computing revenue at or below $7.1M for the quarter ended 30 September 2026, or a Merritt cluster delivery slipping past Q4 2026, would also break the case.
Not a pickResearch coverage at low conviction. A medium-or-higher call would open a pick on the scoreboard.

HIVE Digital Technologies' shift from bitcoin mining to AI cloud computing has not been rewarded in the share price: the shares closed at $2.03 on 21 October 2026, 66.3% below the 52-week high of $6.03 (adjusted daily closes). The fiscal second-quarter report, expected around 13 November 2026, settles it by showing whether high-performance computing (HPC) revenue rises above the $7.1 million of the quarter ended 30 June 2026.
The shares closed at $2.56 on 8 October 2026 and at $2.03 on 21 October 2026. That is below the $2.20 daily-close level the 9 October 2026 note named as a break point, so the earlier frame has failed its price test. The 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI), a 0-to-100 gauge of recent selling pressure, read 9.9 on 21 October 2026. Readings under 30 are conventionally called oversold. The three-month price change is -31.4%.
The business facts have not changed since the last note. The 17 August 2026 agreement is a five-year GPU cloud contract of roughly $350 million, about $70 million of annualized revenue. It brings BUZZ HPC, HIVE's AI cloud unit, to about $180 million of annualized revenue, per the company's announcement as reported by Crowdfund Insider. A Benzinga headline on 21 October 2026 reported an analyst maintaining a Buy rating; the firm and target were not stated in the headline.
The narrative is maturing: the contract and partnership news has been public since August, the 16 September 2026 ProCogia announcement did not hold the price, and selling has continued into the 21 October 2026 close.
Bullish and bearish views on HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd.
The bull case on HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd. (HIVE), in brief: Large contract with customer funding. The bear case: Mining still supplies most revenue.
Bull case
- Large contract with customer funding. The 17 August 2026 agreement carries about $185 million of capital expenditure, a roughly $35 million customer deposit, and 2,016 NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs at Merritt. The company also issued $130 million of 0% exchangeable notes on 30 June 2026 as funding.
- Cloud revenue has started. HIVE's 10 September 2026 operating disclosure reported preliminary, unaudited GPU-cloud revenue averaging about $100,000 a day since 21 August 2026. That revenue falls partly inside the quarter ended 30 September 2026.
- Revenue growing, cash on hand. Fiscal Q1 2027 revenue was $79.1 million, up 73.5% from the prior-year quarter, per the company's results as reported by The Energy Mag. Cash was $208.0 million at 30 June 2026.
- Analyst targets sit far above the price. MarketBeat reported a consensus rating of Moderate Buy with an average target of $6.95 on 30 July 2026, with individual targets from $5.00 to $10.00. The 21 October 2026 close is $2.03.
Bear case
- Mining still supplies most revenue. Of the $79.1 million fiscal Q1 2027 revenue, $72.1 million came from digital currency and $7.1 million from HPC (company results, quarter ended 30 June 2026). The shares therefore still move with bitcoin prices and mining margins.
- Share issuance capacity is live. The equity distribution agreement was amended to $300 million on 22 June 2026 with roughly $214.7 million remaining. The company raised $31.1 million gross through it in the quarter ended 30 June 2026, and each dollar raised at $2.03 sells more shares than at earlier prices.
- Contract headlines mix commitment types. The 10 September 2026 release cited more than $600 million of year-to-date total contract value, and its footnote says this includes letters of intent as well as signed agreements. The 16 September 2026 ProCogia partnership disclosed no value.
- Contested Swedish tax provision. The company carries an $84.7 million provision for Swedish VAT assessments under appeal in Swedish administrative courts. An adverse ruling would turn a non-cash charge into a cash demand during the Merritt build-out.
Price setup
The shares closed at $2.03 on 21 October 2026 against a 52-week high of $6.03. The close on 8 October 2026 was $2.56. The RSI of 9.9 is deeper than the 15.2 read on 8 October 2026, so selling intensified after the last note.
There is no price level in the adjusted daily closes that shows buyers stepping in. A close back above the $2.56 level of 8 October 2026 would show the decline has stopped; a daily close below $1.75 would extend it.
Crowding evidence points the other way from a squeeze. No SEC Form 4 insider sales are in company filings for the last 30 days. The observable supply risk is the unused equity program of roughly $214.7 million, and the quarterly report is about three weeks away.
Catalysts, next 30 days
- ~13 November 2026, est. Fiscal Q2 2027 report, quarter ended 30 September 2026. The prior-year fiscal Q2 report came on 14 November 2025 with a call on 17 November 2025. The report shows whether HPC revenue rose above $7.1 million and how much the company raised through share sales.
Elapsed catalysts
- 28 October 2026 — Federal Reserve rate decision. Miners trade as a high-beta response to rate expectations, and equipment financing costs for the Merritt cluster follow the same curve. (passed 9d ago)
- ~5 November 2026, est. Monthly bitcoin production and BUZZ HPC update. HIVE publishes it in the first week of each month. It is the only company read on GPU cloud revenue before the quarterly report. (passed 1d ago)
What would change the view
The case breaks if reported HPC revenue for the quarter ended 30 September 2026 is at or below the $7.1 million of the June quarter, or if a monthly update or the quarterly report moves Merritt delivery into 2027. Share-sale proceeds above the $31.1 million of the prior quarter would add a further strain. An adverse Swedish court ruling that makes the $84.7 million provision payable would also weaken it.
On price, a daily close below $1.75 would extend the decline well past the $2.03 close of 21 October 2026 and end the thesis as written. The case strengthens if HPC revenue clearly exceeds $7.1 million and the monthly update confirms the Merritt cluster is on schedule for Q4 2026.
What it trades with
HIVE trades with bitcoin and with other bitcoin miners that are moving into AI hosting, because digital currency still supplied $72.1 million of the $79.1 million fiscal Q1 2027 revenue. It also trades with GPU cloud and AI infrastructure names on contract news. Nasdaq shares and the TSXV line in Canadian dollars move together, with a gap that follows the CAD/USD rate. Rate decisions move the shares because equipment financing and miner valuations are both sensitive to the rate path.
Notes
- Fiscal year ends 31 March, so the quarter ended 30 September 2026 is fiscal Q2 FY2027, not a calendar Q3 report.
- Dual-listed: Nasdaq HIVE in USD and TSXV in CAD; the two lines diverge with the CAD/USD rate.
- $130M of 0% exchangeable notes due 2031 (closed 30 June 2026) carry a $4.83 exchange price; a capped call limits dilution up to $8.5275.
- The equity distribution agreement was amended to $300M on 22 June 2026 with roughly $214.7M remaining, so issuance capacity is live.
- A monthly bitcoin production and BUZZ HPC update is published in the first week of each month; annual recurring revenue is disclosed at management's discretion.
- The Swedish VAT assessments behind the $84.7M provision are under appeal in Swedish administrative courts; the provision is non-cash as recognised.
