How to read this
The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on 22 October 2026; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.
Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.
Kill line
A daily close below $10, a round-number level under the 22 October 2026 close of $11.10. A Q3 2026 report with revenue growth under the 7% guided floor, or with no stated WiseEye smart-glasses revenue, would also break the case.
Not a pickResearch coverage at low conviction. A medium-or-higher call would open a pick on the scoreboard.

How picks are graded →The thesis
Himax Technologies has cleared one hurdle in the smart-glasses story and lost the price support of the earlier case. On 14 October 2026 the company named Alibaba's Qwen Glasses N1 as a product using its WiseEye HX6538 processor, yet the shares closed at $11.10 on 22 October 2026, well below the $13 level the earlier note set as the end of the recovery case. The Q3 2026 report on 5 November 2026 settles whether revenue grew at least 7% from Q2 and whether the glasses carry a stated revenue or shipment figure.
Himax reported Q2 revenue of $227.4 million on 6 August 2026, up 14.2% from Q1 and above the 10–13% it had guided. It guided Q3 growth of 7–11% and gross margin around 34%. The 14 October 2026 press release says the HX6538 handles always-on vision AI at about 5 milliwatts, and it gives no shipment count, revenue figure or battery-life gain.
The narrative is accelerating in news flow but not in the price: the Alibaba announcement is the first named smart-glasses customer since the 6 August 2026 report, and the shares kept falling afterward. Company news shows no negative announcement behind the decline. The reason for the selling is not identified.
Bullish and bearish views on Himax Technologies, Inc.
The bull case on Himax Technologies, Inc. (HIMX), in brief: A named customer now exists. The bear case: The win carries no numbers.
Bull case
- A named customer now exists. Himax announced on 14 October 2026 that the HX6538 is integrated into Alibaba's Qwen Glasses N1 series. The 6 August 2026 release had cited only an unnamed "leading global brand".
- Automotive sales beat guidance. Q2 revenue of $227.4 million rose 14.2% sequentially against guidance of 10–13%, and gross margin was 33.1% (Q2 release, 6 August 2026).
- Another sequential gain is guided. Himax guided Q3 revenue growth of 7–11% and gross margin around 34% on 6 August 2026. A report inside that range extends the recovery.
- Selling is extreme by one measure. The 14-day relative strength index (RSI) was 12.8 on 22 October 2026 (adjusted daily closes), far under the conventional oversold line of 30.
Bear case
- The win carries no numbers. The 14 October 2026 release gives no shipment count, revenue contribution or battery-life gain. Non-driver revenue, the segment where new products first appear, was $45.9 million, 20.2% of Q2 revenue (Q2 release, 6 August 2026).
- The price broke the earlier floor. The shares closed at $13.30 on 9 October 2026 and $11.10 on 22 October 2026 (adjusted daily closes). The three-month change is -12.8%, and the close is 53.3% below the 52-week high of $23.79.
- Analyst targets sit below the price. MarketBeat listed a Hold consensus from three analysts on 5 October 2026, with an average 12-month target of $8.00.
- Guided profit trails revenue. Himax guided Q3 profit of 8.0–10.0 cents per diluted American depositary share (ADS), below Q2's 11.4 cents, after an expected $11.7 million employee-bonus expense (Q2 release, 6 August 2026).
Price setup
The adjusted close on 22 October 2026 was $11.10. The 14-day RSI of 12.8 shows a one-way move, and the shares sit under every September reference level, including the $14.61 post-earnings close they reclaimed on 11 September 2026.
The $13 weekly-close level from the earlier note has been breached. The next round-number level is $10, which sits under the current close. A close back above $13 would restore the earlier picture.
Crowding evidence is limited. StockStory counted 41 moves greater than 5% in the shares over the year to July 2026, so large swings are routine. The earnings date is 13 days away. No US insider filings exist because Himax files as a foreign private issuer.
Catalysts, next 30 days
No upcoming dated catalysts on file — the dated entries below have passed.
Elapsed catalysts
- 5 November 2026: Q3 2026 earnings release and call, 8:00 a.m. Eastern. The test is revenue growth of at least 7% from Q2's $227.4 million, profit within 8.0–10.0 cents per diluted ADS, and any figure for WiseEye smart glasses. (passed 1d ago)
What would change the view
The case breaks if Q3 revenue growth comes in under the 7% guided floor, or if Himax reports no shipment or revenue figure for WiseEye smart glasses after naming the Alibaba product. It also breaks on a daily close below $10, a round-number level under the 22 October 2026 close of $11.10.
A report that shows revenue inside the 7–11% range plus a stated smart-glasses contribution would improve the case. A close back above $13 would show that the October decline has reversed.
What it trades with
Himax shares track Taiwan-linked display and sensor chip names and the wider semiconductor group. Himax fell 7.4% in one session in early July 2026 during a chip-sector profit-taking move, according to StockStory. Alibaba's glasses launch ties part of the story to Chinese consumer-device demand, which the 14 October 2026 release does not quantify.
Notes
- Himax is a foreign private issuer that files Form 20-F and Form 6-K, so US Form 4 insider-transaction filings are not available.
- HIMX trades in the United States as an American depositary share (ADS); company-reported per-share earnings refer to diluted ADSs.
- Himax's Q2 release cited an expected $11.7 million employee-bonus expense in Q3, which weighs on guided per-ADS profit.
