How to read this
The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on 26 October 2026; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.
Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.
Kill line
A daily close below $29.00, a level well under the 26 October 2026 close of $32.69 that would extend the October slide. A fiscal Q1 2027 revenue print below the $18.5 billion low end of the company's own preliminary range would also break the case.

Super Micro Computer sells the servers that hold NVIDIA's AI chips. On 20 October 2026 it said September-quarter revenue would land at $18.5–19.5 billion, about $4 billion above its $14.5–15.5 billion guide, and the shares still closed at $32.69 on 26 October 2026. The fiscal first-quarter 2027 report on 3 November 2026 settles whether the unaudited numbers hold and whether the margin gain comes from a lasting product mix.
The shares are 38.0% below the 52-week high of $52.69, and the 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI), a momentum gauge where readings under 30 mark heavy selling, is 25.1. The shares are still up 27.2% over three months, per adjusted daily closes. The narrative is maturing: the $60 billion-plus order book is well known, and the pre-announcement raised the numbers without holding the price, as the shares fell 5% on 22 October 2026 during a sell-off in AMD and Dell, per Benzinga.
The earlier note carried a lower rating because the quarter had to prove revenue would reach the guide. That test is now passed on the company's own preliminary figures, which is why the rating moves up one step. The $37 weekly-close level in the previous note sits above the latest close, and its revenue-floor test is replaced by the new range.
Bullish and bearish views on Super Micro Computer, Inc.
The bull case on Super Micro Computer, Inc. (SMCI), in brief: Revenue is far ahead of guidance. The bear case: The June-quarter margin did not repeat.
Bull case
- Revenue is far ahead of guidance. The preliminary update on 20 October 2026 put September-quarter sales at $18.5–19.5 billion. FactSet-tracked analysts had expected $14.9 billion and the LSEG average cited by Reuters was $15.23 billion.
- Margin is above the guide. Preliminary gross margin is 12.0–12.5% against guidance of 10.4–10.8%, and Reuters cited an analyst estimate of 10.15%. The company attributes the gain mainly to customer and product mix.
- Full-year guidance leaves room. Supermicro guided fiscal 2027 net sales to $65.0–72.0 billion on 11 August 2026, against $39.1 billion in fiscal 2026. A quarter near $19 billion is a large share of that range.
- Next-generation racks are shipping. Supermicro began shipping NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 racks on 23 September 2026 and introduced a Vera CPU rack with 256 liquid-cooled CPUs on 22 October 2026.
- New partnerships keep arriving. Supermicro announced AI-RAN work with Nokia and NVIDIA and an AI infrastructure partnership with Nutanix on 21 October 2026, after the NetApp collaboration of 1 October 2026.
Bear case
- The June-quarter margin did not repeat. Gross margin was 17.5% on $11.1 billion of sales in the June quarter, helped by contracts deferred into it, then guided down to 10.4–10.8% for September. Full-year fiscal 2026 margin was 10.8%, against 11.1% a year earlier, per the 10-K filed 31 August 2026.
- Customer mix is unknown. Analysts quoted by investinglive on 21 October 2026 said the split between large cloud companies and newer AI cloud providers such as CoreWeave and SpaceX is not yet disclosed. Newer buyers add concentration and credit risk.
- Export-control case is still live. Ting-Wei Sun pleaded guilty on 8 October 2026 to counts tied to about $2.5 billion of diverted AI servers, according to press reports. Super Micro is not a defendant.
- Memory costs are climbing. Micron reported on 30 September 2026 that DRAM prices rose by a high-teens percentage in its fiscal Q4. DRAM is a direct cost in every server.
- Analysts remain cautious. Citigroup kept a Neutral rating and a $45 target on 8 October 2026, and Mizuho kept Neutral with a $43 target on 6 October 2026. Both targets sit above the 26 October 2026 close.
- Share supply can grow. A $2 billion at-the-market program remains open, and the guide assumed 745 million GAAP diluted shares.
Price setup
The adjusted close on 26 October 2026 was $32.69. That is 38.0% below the 52-week high of $52.69. The 14-day RSI of 25.1 shows selling that has run well ahead of buying.
The shares have the pre-announcement gain. Reuters put the after-hours rise on 20 October 2026 at 11.3% and MarketWatch at 14%, and Benzinga reported a 5% pullback on 22 October 2026 amid AI supply fears. The 13 October 2026 close in the previous note was $39.07, a level now above the market.
Crowding evidence is mixed. There is no wide gap above a rising moving average. The leveraged single-stock ETF launched 1 June 2026 amplifies daily moves, and earnings are one week away. Benzinga's 21 October 2026 "Squeeze Watch" headline shows retail attention remains high.
Catalysts, next 30 days
No upcoming dated catalysts on file — the dated entries below have passed.
Elapsed catalysts
- 28 October 2026 — Federal Reserve rate decision. The shares have tracked Treasury yields. Benzinga cited a 10-year yield near 5% on 17 September 2026. (passed 9d ago)
- 3 November 2026 — Fiscal Q1 2027 results, call at 5:00 p.m. ET. The report confirms or revises the $18.5–19.5 billion revenue range and the 12.0–12.5% margin range. It also gives customer mix, updated fiscal 2027 guidance and the diluted share count. (passed 3d ago)
- Shortly after 3 November 2026 — Form 10-Q for the quarter. The filing shows customer concentration, inventory, receivables and any at-the-market sales. (passed 3d ago)
What would change the view
The case breaks if reported revenue lands below the $18.5 billion low end of the preliminary range, or if gross margin comes in below 12.0%. It also breaks if the 10-Q shows a few buyers driving most of the quarter, if guidance for fiscal 2027 is cut, or if the export-control case names the company.
On price, a daily close below $29.00 would extend the October slide. Evidence that the move up is real would be a report that confirms the range and holds margin near 12%, with fiscal 2027 sales guidance at or above $65.0 billion.
What it trades with
Dell and HPE rose about 6% and 5% after hours on 20 October 2026 on Supermicro's update, and Dell and AMD fell in the 22 October 2026 sell-off. AI-server shares move together on spending signals.
Micron's DRAM pricing is the main input cost to watch. The shares also respond to Treasury yields and oil, as Benzinga described on 28 September 2026.
Notes
- Fiscal year ends 30 June; fiscal Q1 2027 covers July through September 2026.
- The FY26 Form 10-K filed 31 August 2026 still carries risk-factor language on prior SEC filing delinquencies and internal-control material weaknesses.
- A $2 billion at-the-market equity program opened in fiscal Q3 2026 and remains available as a source of new share supply.
- The 11 June 2026 financing included 75,000,000 depositary shares at $50, each 1/20th of a 7.0% Series A mandatory convertible preferred share.
- GraniteShares runs a leveraged single-stock ETF on the shares, launched 1 June 2026; daily rebalancing amplifies moves in both directions.
- The March 2026 federal export-control indictment of three former associates is unresolved; the company was not named a defendant.
