How to read this
The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on the last session; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.
Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.
Kill line
A daily close below $5.50, which would extend the slide below the $6.10 close of 22 October 2026 and the 52-week low of $6.78. A third-quarter backlog below $592.0 million or a further cut to the $375–405 million revenue guide would also break the case.
Not a pickResearch coverage at low conviction. A medium-or-higher call would open a pick on the scoreboard.

How picks are graded →The thesis
York Space Systems' recovery case still needs funded government task orders and a backlog above the $592.0 million reported at 30 June 2026, and no filing since the 13 August 2026 results shows either. The shares closed at $6.10 on 22 October 2026, below the $6.50 level the prior note set as its downside limit, so that level has now failed. The third-quarter report, expected around 12 November 2026, settles whether delayed work has turned into contracted revenue.
The company cut 2026 revenue guidance to $375–405 million from $545–595 million on 13 August 2026, citing a shift in government purchasing toward indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contracts. Backlog was $592.0 million at 30 June 2026, down from $642.3 million at 31 March 2026. The narrative is dead as a recovery story: new analyst coverage on 9 October 2026 and 15 October 2026 and two Space Force task orders disclosed on 12 October 2026 did not stop the shares falling 67.7% over three months in adjusted daily closes.
Bullish and bearish views on York Space Systems Inc.
The bull case on York Space Systems Inc. (YSS), in brief: Cash covers the delay. The bear case: The order book shrank before the guide fell.
Bull case
- Cash covers the delay. York reported $534 million of cash and equivalents at 30 June 2026, per its Q2 2026 results release. StockAnalysis put the market capitalisation at $976.61 million on 9 October 2026, before the further drop to $6.10, so cash was a large part of the company's value then.
- Space Force work keeps arriving. On 12 October 2026 York announced two Space Data Network task orders: Delivery Order 2, a multi-vendor interoperability demonstration, and Delivery Order 3, planning for the Space Exchange Point on-orbit demonstration. Trade coverage describes the second as an early planning phase; no funded value was reported.
- Delivery record is intact. York reported on 13 August 2026 that its second Tranche 1 Transport Layer launch brought the programme to 42 satellites launched out of 42 built.
- Analyst targets sit above the price. Piper Sandler initiated at Neutral with a $9 target on 15 October 2026, and Barclays initiated at Equal-Weight with an $11 target on 9 October 2026. StockAnalysis listed a $14.50 consensus target across 13 analysts on 9 October 2026.
Bear case
- The order book shrank before the guide fell. Backlog of $592.0 million at 30 June 2026 compares with $642.3 million three months earlier. The 13 August 2026 guidance cut removed $170 million from the low end of the prior revenue range.
- Earnings missed on the quarter. Benzinga reported Q2 2026 earnings per share of $(0.31) against an estimate of $(0.14) on 13 August 2026, while sales of $92.547 million beat the $91.562 million estimate.
- Price keeps breaking levels. The adjusted close fell from $9.57 on 25 September 2026 to $7.11 on 9 October 2026 and $6.10 on 22 October 2026. The 14-day relative strength index was 15.9 on 22 October 2026, a reading usually described as deeply oversold.
- Litigation overhangs the shares. Securities suits cover purchases between 29 January 2026 and 11 May 2026 and cite a Wolfpack Research short report on satellite software and the Space Development Agency; Glancy Prongay & Murray lists a 30 October 2026 lead-plaintiff deadline.
- Analysts have cut. Canaccord downgraded to Hold with a $13.5 target on 18 August 2026, JPMorgan downgraded to Neutral with a $17 target on 17 August 2026, and Truist (Hold) lowered its target to $14 on 20 August 2026. Piper Sandler's $9 target is the lowest in this group.
Price setup
The shares closed at $6.10 on 22 October 2026, according to adjusted daily closes. That is below the 52-week low of $6.78 that StockAnalysis reported on 9 October 2026, so the shares are at new lows. The 52-week high was $44.54, and York listed in January 2026, so the shares have under nine months of trading history.
The decline has been steep and one-directional: $9.57 on 25 September 2026, $7.11 on 9 October 2026, $6.10 on 22 October 2026. No Piper Sandler or Barclays target sits below the current price. Crowding evidence points to forced or fatigued selling rather than heavy buying: a relative strength reading of 15.9, a pending lead-plaintiff deadline and an earnings report about three weeks away. The 15 October 2026 Piper Sandler target of $9 is 47.5% above the 22 October 2026 close, which shows how far analysts' numbers sit from the price.

- ~12 November 2026, est.: Third-quarter 2026 earnings report. EarningsWhispers lists this date; York has not confirmed it. It gives the first backlog figure since $592.0 million at 30 June 2026 and shows whether the August and October task orders and federal fiscal year-end bookings arrived.
Elapsed catalysts
- 30 October 2026: Lead-plaintiff deadline in the securities class actions covering 29 January to 11 May 2026 purchasers. It marks the next step in litigation tied to the Wolfpack allegations. (passed 7d ago)
What would change the view
The case breaks on a daily close below $5.50, or on a third-quarter backlog below $592.0 million, or on a further cut to the $375–405 million revenue guide. A company filing or customer action that reduces work under the Space Development Agency programme named in the Wolfpack report would also break it.
The case improves only on reported evidence: a backlog figure above $592.0 million, or task orders with disclosed funded values, in the third-quarter report. Award announcements that omit values have not moved the order book so far.
What it trades with
York trades with other small and mid-cap US space and defence-technology names that depend on Space Force and Space Development Agency budgets. Its moves since the 13 August 2026 guidance cut have followed company-specific news on backlog, guidance and litigation, not a sector rally or sell-off, and no theme neighbour is cited here because none is confirmed to have moved with it.
Notes
- York's backlog counts expected revenue from awarded contracts but excludes unexercised options; customer termination rights can reduce it, per the 13 August 2026 results release.
- The Space Development Agency is a concentration in York's customers and backlog, per the risk disclosures with the 13 August 2026 results.
- Securities class actions cover purchasers between 29 January 2026 and 11 May 2026; Glancy Prongay & Murray lists a 30 October 2026 lead-plaintiff deadline.
- York listed in a January 2026 IPO, so its trading history is under nine months long and year-over-year share comparisons are limited.
- The third-quarter earnings date of about 12 November 2026 is an estimate from EarningsWhispers; York has not confirmed it.
