How to read this
The red mark is the published kill line — the price that would prove the thesis wrong. The dot is where the name closed on 26 October 2026; a dot left of the mark has closed through its line.
Distance is drawn on a square-root scale, so close calls get the room. Past 8% a row reads well clear, with a hollow dot to show the figure is off the drawn scale. Rows run tightest first.
Kill line
A daily close below $1.00, the round-number level under the 26 October 2026 close of $1.12. The case also breaks if MAVERIC topline slips beyond mid-2027 or the company says current cash cannot complete the expanded trial.
Not a pickResearch coverage at low conviction. A medium-or-higher call would open a pick on the scoreboard.

How picks are graded →The thesis
Cardiol Therapeutics is more likely to lag than lead the S&P 500 over the next three months. The one event that can settle the case, the MAVERIC Phase III topline, is guided for mid-2027, and the shares closed at $1.12 on 26 October 2026, down from $1.20 on 13 October 2026.
The 23 September 2026 company release moved topline guidance from Q1 2027 to mid-2027 and expanded the trial to up to 150 patients from 110, after a blinded review showed fewer recurrences than expected. Cardiol has issued no efficacy news since. The next dated item is the Q3 2026 interim report, estimated for 12 November 2026.
The narrative is maturing in the weak direction: the trial story is well known, and interest has faded since the 23 September 2026 delay. The 14-day relative strength index (RSI), a 0-100 momentum gauge, was 26.8 on 26 October 2026. That is higher than the 4.8 reading on 13 October 2026, which means the selling has slowed but the price has not recovered.
Bullish and bearish views on Cardiol Therapeutics Inc. Class A
The bull case on Cardiol Therapeutics Inc. Class A (CRDL), in brief: Cash is guided past the readout. The bear case: The readout moved later.
Bull case
- Cash is guided past the readout. On 23 September 2026 Cardiol said existing capital funds MAVERIC to completion, with cash lasting into Q1 2028.
- Phase II results are peer-reviewed. The recurrent pericarditis Phase II data appeared in the Journal of the American Heart Association, announced 14 July 2026, with sustained reductions in pain and inflammation.
- Brokers keep high targets. H.C. Wainwright reiterated Buy with a $9 target on 23 September 2026 (Benzinga). Canaccord Genuity raised its target to $10 on 17 August 2026. The consensus target of $9.33 is far above the $1.12 close.
Bear case
- The readout moved later. Topline went from Q1 2027 to mid-2027 on 23 September 2026, so no efficacy event falls inside the three-month window.
- Low recurrences cut both ways. A blinded review cannot separate a drug effect from a milder patient group, and the shortfall in events is what forced the expansion to up to 150 patients.
- Share supply is open. Cardiol filed a US$150 million preliminary prospectus on Form F-10 on 10 September 2026 and accelerated its warrants on 16 September 2026. A final prospectus would allow new shares, debt or warrants before the readout.
- An approved drug sets the bar. Rilonacept has been approved for recurrent pericarditis since 2021, so CardiolRx must show a placebo-controlled benefit and a commercial position.
- Price is half its high. The 26 October 2026 close of $1.12 is 51.0% below the 52-week high of $2.29, according to adjusted daily closes.
Price setup
The shares closed at $1.12 on 26 October 2026, against $1.20 on 13 October 2026, $1.66 on 30 September 2026 and a 52-week high of $2.29. The three-month price change was -2.6%, so the shares sit near their July levels and the September rally has been fully reversed.
The $1.50 level from the earlier note failed on a daily close and has not been recovered. The next round-number reference is $1.00, 10.7% under the latest close. The reason for the October decline is not identified in company news.
Crowding evidence points to supply. The F-10 prospectus remains the open route to new shares. The remaining 425,000 accelerated warrants expired on 16 October 2026; the company has not reported how many were exercised.
Catalysts, next 30 days
- ~12 November 2026, est.: Q3 2026 interim report on Form 6-K. It shows cash after the September warrant proceeds and whether expanded MAVERIC enrollment is on pace for the mid-2027 topline.
- Any time: final prospectus or offering announcement. A prospectus supplement under the September registration would add shares before the readout.
- Mid-2027, guided: MAVERIC topline. It falls outside the 30-day window, but it is the only event that settles whether CardiolRx reduces pericarditis recurrence.
What would change the view
The case that the shares lag the index breaks if the company shows MAVERIC is ahead of schedule, for example by restating topline earlier than mid-2027, or by reporting that expanded enrollment completed with the blinded recurrence rate rising toward plan. Either would bring the efficacy event closer than the guidance now implies.
The case also weakens if cash is shown to cover the expanded trial without a new equity raise. In the other direction, a topline slipping beyond mid-2027, a statement that current cash cannot complete the expanded trial, or a daily close below $1.00 would confirm the weak read.
What it trades with
Cardiol trades on its own trial and financing news. It is a single-asset company, with CardiolRx in recurrent pericarditis and CRD-38 still preclinical, so it follows small-cap clinical-stage biotech sentiment more than any sector earnings cycle. The stock carries a TSX line priced in Canadian dollars, so moves can partly reflect the exchange rate.
Notes
- Dual-listed on Nasdaq and TSX under CRDL; the TSX line prices in Canadian dollars, so gaps between the two lines can reflect the exchange rate rather than news.
- Effectively a one-asset company: CardiolRx in recurrent pericarditis; CRD-38 is preclinical with no investigational new drug filing.
- A US$150 million preliminary prospectus on Form F-10, filed 10 September 2026, lets the company issue shares, debt or warrants once it is final.
